Summary

Laos, 1979: Dr. Siri Paiboun, the twice retired ex-National Coroner of Laos, receives an unmarked package in the mail. Inside is a handwoven pha sin, a colorful traditional skirt worn in northern Laos. A lovely present, but who sent it to him, and why? And, more importantly, why is there a severed human finger stitched into the sin's lining? Siri is convinced someone is trying to send him a message and won't let the matter rest until he's figured it out. He finagles a trip up north to the province where the sin was made, not realizing he is embarking on a deadly scavenger hunt. Meanwhile, the northern Lao border is about to erupt into violence—and Dr. Siri and his entourage are walking right into the heart of the conflict.

Great Siri... Awful narrator

Come back Nigel Anthony! Another good Siri tale ruined by a truly awful narration. Such a shame

Dull, Dull, Dull

What happened to the first narrator?? This one is so boring and flavourless that he has totally spoilt the story. He’s even got the name of the main character wrong!!!! His name is ‘Siri’ not ‘Silly’. He could have at least got that right!!!!

Reasonable plot let down by the telling

I found the narration weakened the storyline, too 'sing along' for myself though others may feel differently. Just wasn't to my taste.

Ruined by narration

The narration was appalling. There was no characterisation and no phrasing. Almost impossible to follow.

Oh what a shame!

Good story, awful narration. Such a shame after the previous reader. Sorry Mr Chafers but not good enough.

Annoying narration

I love all Colin Cotterils books and the previous narrator was excellent. However I found this one really poor, particularly his pronunciation of Siri as Silly, just couldn't continue to listen.

Wonderful Dr. Siri ...

It is such a pleasure to hear a new Dr. Siri book and this was an entertaining, engrossing story. Audible please bring out more of Colin Cotterill's Dr. Siri stories.

Monotone

Really enjoyed previous Dr Siri stories, but why was the narrator changed. Unfortunately the narrator of this book is so monotonous that he detracts from the story.
Real shame

Horrendous Narrator - where is Nigel Anthony?

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Just one of the worst narrators I have heard on Audible, very little intonation or characterisation to my mind, and not a patch on Nigel Anthony who has performed the other books in the Colin Cotterill series and is, for me, the voice of Dr Siri.

A.I. recording RUINS the story!!!!

As per all the other reviews I should have read but didn't, as I love this series... this brilliant book has been destroyed by stupid A.I. unable to tell a story. Utterly devoid of emotion, this will cause someone to crash one day!! Buy the book, and stick with Nigel Anthony as your narrator! Love, love, love him - best storyteller I have found!
