Story
"The Ghost Pirates" is a powerful account of a doomed and haunted ship on its last voyage, and of the terrible sea-devils (of quasi-human aspect, and perhaps the spirits of bygone buccaneers) that besiege it and finally drag it down to an unknown fate. With its command of maritime knowledge, and its clever selection of hints and incidents suggestive of latent horrors in nature, this book at times reaches enviable peaks of power.

Story
The year is 2033. The world has been reduced to rubble. Humanity is nearly extinct and the half-destroyed cities have become uninhabitable through radiation. Beyond their boundaries, they say, lie endless burned-out deserts and the remains of splintered forests. Survivors still remember the past greatness of humankind, but the last remains of civilisation have already become a distant memory. Man has handed over stewardship of the earth to new life-forms.

Story
Perhaps the best-loved 19th-century American novel, Mark Twain's tale of boyhood adventure overflows with comedy, warmth, and slapstick energy. It brings to life an array of irresistible characters - the awesomely self-confident Tom, his best buddy Huck Finn, indulgent Aunt Polly, and the lovely, beguiling Becky - as well as such unforgettable incidents as whitewashing a fence, swearing an oath in blood, and getting lost in a dark and labyrinthine cave.

Summary
Howard Phillips Lovecraft, better known as H.P. Lovecraft, was an American author of horror, fantasy, poetry and science fiction, especially the sub-genre known as weird fiction and many feel he is the acknowledged master of creepy, weird and unsettling stories. These are six stories by Lovecraft that literally span his career; some being written when he was barely a teenager and one ("The Shunned House") only published after he had died.
Each story is unique and strange in it's own way but all of them come from the same mind that gave us the Cult of Cthulhu and other wonderful tales that generations now have enjoyed for their strangeness that resonates with our own inner fears. Some of these stories explore the depths of the human mind others the depths of human degradation and creepiness.
Stories included:
- The Beast in the Cave,
- The White Ship,
- Nyarlathotep,
- The Alchemist,
- Dagon,
- The Tomb.

horrible narrator...ruined it all
I hated it. The narrator was awful. You could hear him swallow sometimes. He was also just not a good reader. I barely made it halfway through the book and then I gave up. The stories were mediocre at best.

Not his best.
I wish there had been some surrounding matter to tell us when in HPL'S career these stories were written. They almost seem like practice pieces in which he's finding his writing feet, so to speak. . .Also, not sure this narrator was the best choice for HPL, though his manner certainly presented a new note to the HPL experiece.

A decent introduction
I've been hearing about the genius of HP Lovecraft for so long, I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. This book is good not excellent, but gave me a decent introduction to the incredible imagination of HP Lovecraft. I'm now more curious to read some of his longer works.

good stories, read too plainly
ok no all the stories from Locecraft has aged equally well, but a couple here at least were good, but maybe is just me, but the voicr of the reader or the plain voice of the telling in most places didn't help bring the full image of the stories.

Interesting choice of narrator
This audiobook was kind of hard to finish. This recording seemed to be a reorganization of a previous recording except that a chapter was missing. During the 6th chapter, there is a beeping inn the background that goes on for like 90 seconds (maybe a fire alarm or a low battery warning on a UPS?) that was REALLY distracting.

Not terrible, but not great.
maybe it's just me, but often short stories just simply don't have enough. they're. . . well, too short. the majority of these just felt like you didn't have enough info to feel apart of the story and not enough from the characters to sympathise. just didn't quite hit the mark for me. but these were so cheap they were practically free.

I really enjoyed the ironic tone of this reader. ....
I believe that Brian Kelly has been the reader of many SF stories on the Loyalbooks site (formerly Booksshouldbefree)
I believe he uses a different name, Phil. But whatever name he uses, he adds a fun quality to the stories he reads....especially in genres that can take themselves too seriously!

Poor narrator
The narrator’s delivery is not in line with the story....his tone, pitch and variations are too sing-songy, stealing energy from the author. I bought dozens of books while on sale...and am wondering if they were on sale because of the Narrator?
