Summary

Liza McCullen will never escape her past, but the unspoilt beaches and tight-knit community of Silver Bay offer the safety she craves for her young daughter, Hannah...until Mike Dormer arrives, and the peace of Silver Bay is shattered.

The mild-mannered Englishman could destroy everything Liza has worked so hard to protect: not only the family business and the bay that harbours her beloved whales but also her conviction that she will never love again.

Wonderful narration brought story to life

I’m a huge fan of JoJo Moyes anyway and was not disappointed by this tale of love (in its purest form). Both narrators were tremendous brings different characters to life across two continents; it’s hard to believe there were only two of them!

Persevere, it gets better

I struggled with this book for the first third. I was very close to stopping and giving up. I'm so glad I didn't. Once you get to the 2nd half of the book, you really understand the characters and it has the perfect ending.
persevere with it, you will enjoy it in the end.

Narrators quite distracting as don’t seem to fit

Narrators don’t fit the characters and the deep voices 1980s Australian soap female voice was quite off putting initially. I stuck with it and liked it in the end although some of the plot lines were a bit unlikely. Ok but not my favourite Jo Jo Moyes work

Spoiled a little by male narrator

The storyline was a bit predictable and clichéd but nevertheless entertaining. The characters were not very well rounded, almost caricatures, but the storyline kept me interested. The female narrator did a good job of distinguishing the multiple characters however the male narrator was stilted to the point of sounding like a child learning to read and sounded too old for the role of Mike. I was very surprised that the producers allowed this book to be read by such an amateurish performer.

Another very good story

A bit slow starting but once you got into it, as good as JoJo Moyes novels usually are. Excellent narrator.

Slow to start but then had me hooked.

It took me a while to get into this story, but after that I was hooked and didn’t want it to end. Stick with it, its worth it.

Slow to start but keep going

I have read snd listened to lots of Jojo Moyes books this is not her best, it is hard going for the first 2-3 hours. I struggled to connect the characters or even to care at times but eventually something clicked and the story got going. It comes good in the end and I enjoyed the book, there are worse listens out there but I'm glad this was on a 2 for 1 deal.
