The Spanish House is a mixture of designs, Georgian, Gothic and Moorish, as if whoever started it had simply got bored. Laurie is pretty sure love at first sight doesn't exist. After all, life isn't a scene from the movies, is it? But then, through a misted-up bus window one snowy December day, she sees a man whom she knows instantly is the one. Their eyes meet, there's a moment of pure magic...and then her bus drives away. Laurie thinks she'll never see the boy from the bus again. But at their Christmas party a year later, her best friend, Sarah, introduces her to the new love of her life. Who is, of course, the boy from the bus.

Please persevere
I downloaded this book eagerly because I love Jojo Moyes. However, unlike any other of her books I have listened to, it really was a struggle to get into it.
But I am so glad I persevered. This is a wonderful, heartwarming story and the narration is absolutely brilliant.
So please don’t give up or be put off by the slow start. It is so worth it to hang on in there.

Wonderful narration brought story to life
I’m a huge fan of JoJo Moyes anyway and was not disappointed by this tale of love (in its purest form). Both narrators were tremendous brings different characters to life across two continents; it’s hard to believe there were only two of them!

Jojo at her wonderful best
This author is staggering in the sheer range of her interests and knowledge - she must put such a lot of research into her novels, and they are so varied! This one is no exception. To my shame I had never been particularly interested in Australia before (big apologies to you all down under!!) but this novel inspired such a feeling of vivid beauty, warm fellowship and a very different life it has made me curious and keen to go there. The story has all Jojo's great elements: believeable, likeable characters, mysterious brooding undercurrents, a sense of suspense, unspoken love, vivid description of people and places, wonderfully structured story that dips in and out of the viewpoint of various characters.... just great. Hope you love it as much as I did.

I have listened to several Jojo Moyes books and enjoyed them immensely. However this book just did not click with me on any level. I couldn’t get into it at all and the voices of the actors really irritating! My mind kept wandering when it was playing. Sorry Jojo x

I loved the story, just what I needed to cheer me up. But the narration was pretty poor, the voices didn't fit and it sometimes seemed like they were reading without knowing what the next line was.

Slow start but well worth continuing
It took me a few chapters to get into Silver Bay - Maybe it’s being set in Australia or maybe having read other JoJo Moyes I was expecting the first two or three chapters to entice me in quicker. Anyway I love this book I couldn’t stop listening after a while and it really touched my heart. It’s a great story with a deeper meaning to. Highly recommend it.
