Natascha Wodin geht dem Leben ihrer Mutter nach, die 1944 von den Nazis aus der ukrainischen Hafenstadt Mariupol nach Deutschland verschleppt wurde. Dass es dieses bewegende, dunkel-leuchtende Zeugnis eines Schicksals gibt, das für Millionen anderer steht, ist ein literarisches Ereignis.
