Summary

From Nora Roberts comes the #1 New York Times bestseller Shelter in Place (June 2018) - a powerful tale of heart, heroism...and propulsive suspense.

It was a typical evening at a mall outside Portland, Maine. Three teenage friends waited for the movie to start. A boy flirted with the girl selling sunglasses. Mothers and children shopped together, and the manager at the video-game store tended to customers. Then the shooters arrived.

The chaos and carnage lasted only eight minutes before the killers were taken down. But for those who lived through it, the effects would last forever. In the years that followed, one would dedicate himself to a law enforcement career. Another would close herself off, trying to bury the memory of huddling in a ladies' room, helplessly clutching her cell phone - until she finally found a way to pour the emotions of that night into her art.

But one person wasn’t satisfied with the shockingly high death toll at the DownEast Mall. And as the survivors slowly heal, find shelter, and rebuild, they will discover that another conspirator is lying in wait - and this time, there might be nowhere safe to hide.

From the author of Year One and Come Sundown, Shelter in Place blends propulsive suspense, a cast of vivid characters, and intimate psychological insight in a rich, exciting listen.

Exceptional

In my opinion this is the best Nora Roberts book. It made me laugh and cry. Sign of an excellent book that it can inspire such emotion. Excellent narration. Sorry it had to end. Thank you Nora

Excellent

Excellent story that draws you in, with good narration. Not a typical plot by Nora by any means - the love interest, although present, is very much a minor part of the story. But the characters are very well drawn, and the various individuals' stories are cleverly interwoven. Not quite a thriller, not really a romance, I'm not sure how I would categorize the story, but I definitely wanted to carry on reading/listening.

If you like Nora Roberts' other books, you will probably enjoy this too.

Started Out Really Well, Quickly Turned To Mush

This started well, made me imagine what it would be like to be caught up in such a situation, but it soon turned into Mom's Apple Pie All American Mush. It sounded like some awful B movie, with the oh so handsome hero and the broken beautiful heroine. Plus her rampant, drunken, doped up, gorgeous grandmother. Really, I wouldn't bother, despite the fact that the poor narrator does read it well. This was my first Nora Roberts and I can categorically say that I will never be listening to another.

A must have!

Captivating from the first chapter, Nora Roberts’ novel is super. It has the thriller, a growing romance, dysfunctional families and much more. I played some every time I awoke! A definite addition to the listening library!! Highly recommended.

As ever, brilliant!

You know what you are going to get with Nora!
And here she delivers an indictment of the evil that flourishes in some people and how unfettered access to guns can tear so many lives apart.

Got to love Nora!

Easy listening. Clever and not too predictable. Narration is outstanding - I’d highly recommend the book.

Boring & very predictable

What a load of tosh. Absolutely no surprises with the characters or storyline. Initially started off very well but as the story progressed I knew exactly what would happen. The ending made me laugh out loud. Very twee & happily ever after. Stuck with it but was hard work.
Would have given no stars if I could. The narrator was good & that’s the only positive thing I can report.
Sorry but for me this is an awful book.

Given up.

Managed to struggle to chapter 18 but can't take it anymore. The only interesting character is the murderer, the rest are ugghhh.
Sadly the crime part of the story rarely shows its face.

I'm a similar age to Cici but she annoys the heck out of me, and the*wonderful* Simone makes me want to vomit.

I really can't be bothered, waste of a credit.

The Nora I love is back!!

The last few Nora Roberts were not what I like to read so, I didn’t. I believe Nora stated if the book is something you don’t like, don’t read it—so I didn’t. It was hard! I missed Nora.

But the Nora I love is back with “Shelter in Place!”
This book is traditional Nora Roberts! No end of the world, no magic, just a great romantic suspense! The first part with shooting up the mall and movie theater was hard to read; but so much will be lost if you skip it. That being said: I highly recommend this book. It will be a book that I will be listening to again and again!!

Captivating!

I purchased this audible book on a quick whim as I boarded a plane for vacation realizing I only had non-fiction books on my phone. It was a suggested new release title and it did not disappoint!!! Every moment I could take, i was listening to the book. It definitely kept my attention and it was very well written!! I’ve read a few other Nora Roberts books but I can say that this is my favorite!
Is it weird that I kinda “miss” CC and wish she was a real life person?! Haha (once you listen to the book, you’ll understand 😉)

A great story line.

The title had me worried that it would be to dark of a story at this time in our world. It was a great read with lots of depth and great interaction. Tragedy can lead to growth and different pathways. I will re-listen to see what I missed the first time through.

Loved CeeCee

Really enjoyed this book! The story is original and moves quickly. I didn't even mind the cheezy sex scenes as there wasn't too many. Narration was excellent. Solid 5 stars from a non Nora Roberts fan.

One of her better books

Typical Nora but not too much romance just enough. More of a thriller. I liked better than her last few. Up there with Witness.

was really surprised

stopped buying Nora Roberts' books awhile ago because they were all too uniform and cookie cutter with just character names being different. This still was a bit in the too familiar but it was also unique and I listened in one day. I like how she used all these shootings and incorporated them into a story. Refreshing new story that is similar in some elements to the Three Sisters Island Trilogy which is my favorite work by her (Dance Upon the Air, Heaven and Earth and Face the Fire). Get this book!

AMAZING NOVEL

I am in awe of this story. I have read or listened to nearly all Roberts’ books and this one is perhaps the best one. It is so well-crafted. A brilliant look at a tragic theme. I cried, I cheered. I was obsessed. Thank you for writing this.

Another Nora Roberts great story with no payoff!

I think this might be my first audible review. I like to read a Nora Roberts book every once and a while between other reads that can get too heavy. The stories are predictable, but the characters are generally good, and the narrations are consistently strong. January LaVoy was wonderful (although CeCe got a bit annoying), and I enjoyed the development of the story and characters greatly. But the build up to the finale went on and on, and then the finale itself was almost non-existent. A blip. Terribly underwhelming. I felt the same about her recent book "Come Sundown." I might be done with Nora...

Easily my newest Nora Robert's fave!!

LOVED. THIS. STORY. Espy with everything going on in America today. I honestly haven't listened to a NR book since The Witness (my previous NR fave), but this one definitely reminded me of how much I love her! The character development was great with every character, all the way down to the dog! Cici and Reed were def my faves tho. The way he always joked about the 2 of them getting together if she ever gave him a chance made me laugh everytime. Great work Nora!!

Good story but....

The story line was really good hard to stop listening. My only complaint is the language I just don’t understand why with such a good story it has to have so much language. I can bear some but this was every other sentence which took some of the enjoyment away for me.
