About this listen

Detective Inspector Munro is a burly Scottish policeman who doesn’t suffer fools gladly. Detective Sergeant West is an intelligent young woman, new to the force, with a lot to prove.

When a missing person case lands on their desks, Munro is skeptical there is much to it. But their investigation soon comes to some strange findings, and before long a body is found.

With a serial killer on their hands, they must act fast to trace a woman placed at the scene of the crime. Yet discovering her true identity, let alone finding her, proves difficult. And as the plot thickens they realise the crime is far graver than either of them could have imagined.

It’s starts out well enough, and the narrator was ok, when he’s using his own voice it’s pretty good. At some point I started to notice that the characters stopped talking before the end of their sentences mid dialogue, and this strange pause was just left hanging…… it was really annoying and I almost binned it off. The ending was all a bit weird as well. I rewound it a few times and I still don’t know what happened.

Weird ending

I was really enjoying it (although its pretty bad, but entertaining), until weirdly, in the last quarter, the writing to changed to where the characters didn't finish sentences. it was the most frustrating thing I've ever had to listen to.

Great characters ie the detectives , didn’t really care much about the killing part usually the killers or victim more interested in which wasn’t , still enjoyable , looking forward to next book

But at some stage and after some restarts I got into the story. It wasn’t the story though keeping me hooked but the relationship between the police characters, like an odd mixture of old fashioned behaviour mixed with modern investigative treats and a love/hate combination which worked oddly. The applications for the culprit were plenty and the end was as much surprising as questionable. But for now everybody seems satisfied of the outcome. Still leaves a big desire to read more of the pair of mismatched detectives, even more so as the location will move to Scotland. Even more playroom for mysteries and gruesome stories.

Took a while to get a grip on the characters

The story was difficult to follow due to the narration constantly pausing throughout the dialogue. l did not enjoy this book because of the dialogue not flowing smoothly, l found myself losing the thread,

Storyline erratic. Narration awful.
