A naked woman in red, high-heeled shoes is poised on the edge of Clifton Suspension Bridge with her back pressed to the safety fence, weeping into a mobile phone. Clinical psychologist Joseph O'Loughlin is only feet away, desperately trying to talk her down. She whispers "You don't understand" ¿ and jumps.

Later, Joe has a visitor ¿ the woman's teenage daughter, a runaway from boarding school. She refuses to believe that her mother would have jumped off the bridge; not only would she not commit suicide, she is also afraid of heights. Joe wants to believe her, for how could a woman be driven to such a desperate act? And who might drive her to it? A terrifying psychological thriller, Shatter delves into the darkest recesses of the human mind.

Intelligent story telling and excellently narrated. Interesting charactisation, fascinating insights into psychology, well paced, disturbing and edge of the seat thrilling. I had not previously known of this author's work. I intend to try another audio book soon; I just hope the next narrator is as accomplished as Tim Piggot-Smith.

Really enjoyed another book by this author so decided to give this a go but couldn’t get into it at all - didn’t make it through the first chapter. Found the narration very dry and lacking in expression so perhaps that had something to do with it. It’s a shame as the synopsis sounded interesting and other reviewers seemed to have liked it. Perhaps I will try the kindle version instead.
