Summary
Ensign Richard Sharpe, newly made an officer, wishes he had stayed a sergeant after he is put in terrible danger by Sergeant Obadiah Hakeswill at the impregnable Gawilghur's ravine.
To regain his confidence and his authority, Sharpe will fight as he has never fought before.
Soldier, hero, rogue - Sharpe is the man you always want on your side. Born in poverty, he joined the army to escape jail and climbed the ranks by sheer brutal courage. He knows no other family than the regiment of the 95th Rifles whose green jacket he proudly wears.

Critic reviews
"Bernard Cornwell is a literary miracle. Year after year, hail, rain, snow, war and political upheavals fail to prevent him from producing the most entertaining and readable historical novels of his generation." ( Daily Mail)
"Cornwell's narration is quite masterly and supremely well-researched."( Observer)
"The best battle scenes of any writer I've ever read, past or present. Cornwell really makes history come alive." ( George R.R. Martin)

Rupert Farley does it again! An excellent book superbly read
Another great Sharpe story superbly read by Rupert Farley who truly brings Sharpe to life from the pages, he has Sean Bean’s voice perfectly. I can almost see the story playing!

Bernard Cornwell
What did you like most about Sharpe's Fortress: The Siege of Gawilghur, December 1803 (The Sharpe Series, Book 3)?
Bernard Cornwell has an amazing talent of stringing fact and fiction together. the story lines of the sharpe chronicles mean that you are on a roller coaster of emotion through the stories. Gripping all the way.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Has to be Sharpe, he is a gritty and stubborn character and you wish you were him.
What does Rupert Farley bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
The mix of very good accents.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Very much so
Any additional comments?
I have the full collection of paper back and could not put the series down 8 years ago when i first read them all, 20 odd books read in 3 months. It is the same with the audio books and a pleasure to revisit the series again.

Great reader
They left out the historical notes, an essential part of the story, this is disappointing.

absolutely brilliant
I'm a bit of a late joiner to Sharpe. I have read the previous two books and this is the first audio book I have listened to with Rupert Farley as narrator. The books rolls along at a blistering pace and I was faintly disappointed that it seemed to finish so quickly as I was enjoying it so much. RF's narration is the best I've heard in an audible book, he does every character (of which there are many) extremely well and his range is extraordinary. I'm looking forward to Trafalgar next. Go on Sharpe you bastard!
