Summary

Read by Steven Pacey, and featuring Joe Abercrombie narrating 'Freedom'. This audio edition also includes an interview with Steven and Joe.

The Union army may be full of bastards, but there's only one who thinks he can save the day singlehanded when the Gurkish come calling: the incomparable Colonel Sand dan Glokta.

Curnden Craw and his dozen are out to recover a mysterious item from beyond the Crinna. Only one small problem: no one seems to know what the item is. Shevedieh, the self-styled best thief in Styria, lurches from disaster to catastrophe alongside her best friend and greatest enemy, Javre, Lioness of Hoskopp. And after years of bloodshed, the idealistic chieftain, Bethod, is desperate to bring peace to the North.

There's only one obstacle left - his own lunatic champion, the most feared man in the North: the Bloody-Nine....

Sharp Ends combines previously published award-winning tales with exclusive new short stories. Violence explodes, treachery abounds and the words are as deadly as the weapons in this rogue's gallery of sideshows, backstories and sharp endings from the world of the First Law.

Humorous, witty, violent.

Humorous, witty, violent.

Joe Abercrombie's books set in the world of the 'First Law' have it all, great characters and storylines brought to life by Steven Pacey, who, in my opinion, is the greatest audiobook narrator in the business.

The combination of Abercrombie's writing and Pacey's narrative always leaves me impatiently waiting for the next Instalment. I have trawled through audibles catalog, hoping to find something that comes close to these, but sadly, nothing quite hits the mark.

I could listen to these stories all day

It helps, but is not essential, to be familiar withe the characters. No matter, with Joes storytelling and wit combined with Steven's nattation it makes for brilliant listening. I would never choose this genre normally but the name 'Pacey' anywhere and I could listen to an instruction manual for Ikea furniture ! But, I am now hooked on Joe's stories. Write more please!

Good stuff

Always love every side story in this, didn't give freedom a chance though sadly, feels like if your going to read one of your stories then don't have a master read all your others stuff. But really fun listening to Steven the first one is my favourite for sure. worthy if you've read all the other stuff

Good continuity

Would you consider the audio edition of Sharp Ends to be better than the print version?

Haven't read the print edition.

What other book might you compare Sharp Ends to, and why?

It has all the hallmarks of classic fantasy stories, maybe a bit of David gem meal in there.

What does Joe Abercrombie and Steven Pacey bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Steven pacey creates the characters with his many voices, he brings them to life, hes excellent at this. Pacey is the man, when narrating Abercrombie. I was disappointed with the narrator on the half a king books, merely because pacey had created the essence of his previous characters so well .if pacey wasnt narrating the Abercrombie books, I would probably buy the print edition.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The last, about the bloody nine and his anger.

Any additional comments?

This book brought a lot of the trilogy together, filling out the brilliant world created by Abercrombie. I hope he writes more, I want to hear what happened to Logan and Glokta.

I have just completed all seven books in this series and just find myself wanting more. They are long meaty books but I got through them in a flash because I couldn't put them down. And Steven Pacey is of course brilliant and complements Joe Abercrombie writing perfectly. I enjoy crime and thriller listens but tried the first of these on a daily deal and was immediately hooked. Clever marketing Audible but I thank you for the experience and will continue investigating this genre.

Joe Abercrombie very good writer.

Steven Pacey reads it superbly, I loved it, the chapter at the end with the Narrator and Author was a nice touch, have been through them all now and am looking forward to the next, don't start with this book the story's are great but if I had started with this I don't think I would have enjoyed it as much. happy listening.

Companion to 1st law.

I advise not getting this until you've read the first 6 books in the series starting with The Blade Itself and ending with Red Country.

this is a brilliant companion, the short stories focus on peripheral and some new characters around events from the 6 1st law books.

I found them highly entertaining. there are a few stories focusing on new characters Shevedieh and Javre which I found really entertaining and Made a Monster was chilling and paints 9 fingers in a more madly brutal light.

Theres an interesting interview with Joe and Steven too.

All in all very good if you're into this series and a must read, even if it does leave you wanting more....

Comes together well

I love joes work. It is so worthwhile to see this one through to the end. The last three hours or so in particular really bring so much of the overall story together.

Fantastic

Usually you’d describe a great book as “unputdownable”. I guess you’d describe a great audiobook as “unnotlistenable”?
Anyway, it’s a fantastic book of short stories set in a brilliant series with great narration. As always, Abercrombie and Pacey have made something special in this audio series.
