About this listen

It was supposed to be a fresh start. A small town where I could hide my little girl from the shadows that haunt us. A place where I could keep us safe.

The last thing I expected was him. A surly, broody mountain of a man who helps me save an injured deer in a snowstorm. Now, Roan Hartley keeps showing up with his glowers and grimaces. But they only make his rare smiles and the gentle way he talks to my daughter mean that much more. When forces from my past find us, Roan is determined to keep us safe—even if that means sleeping on my ancient couch every night.

As days turn to weeks, his touch has my walls crashing down. But someone out there doesn’t want me to find happiness. He doesn’t want me left breathing at all....

Every time I listen to a book by Catherine Cowles, I think it's my favorite and this one is no exception. She writes smart plots with amazing suspense and romance. This is the fourth book in the Lost & Found series and features Roan and Aspen(and Cady). Aspen has begun to become pretty comfortable in her new life. After starting over and away from her brother-in-law, she feels like this could be home. When a deer is caught in a tomato plant wire, Roan comes to Aspen's house, finding her and her adorable daughter, Cady as they want to help rehabilitate the injured animal. And our story begins. Roan is one we have met before, broken, quiet, and always keeping to himself, Cowles lets us in on his journey of healing. Aspen is on edge as things around her become a bit crazy, and Cady is just a bundle of energy and joy. We get visits from Roan's family with appear in the first three books, and it's all like coming home and being enveloped in love. The thread of danger is just enough to keep me on edge and the love story is timeless.I loved this listen and now can't wait for Law's story.

And making this listen come alive is the team of Maxine Mitchell and Zachary Webber. These two talented narrators fall into their characters as if they are telling their own story. Mitchell is the overprotective mother, but her guarded heart comes to life with her emotional voices. Webber is broody, broken and uses his voice to heal Roan. Together they create magic and a listen that you do not want to miss.

This series just keeps getting better & better!

I absolutely loved this latest installment.

A combination of excellent writing and fantastic narration by both narrators meant that the story had me hooked all the way through. Lots of plot intrigue and red herrings kept me guessing, and a wonderful love story between Roan and Aspen.

Already looking forward to Lawson's story next.

Love this series so much!

With each new release Catherine Cowles comes up with a hero I know will steal my heart and in Shadows of You Roan was no different. I already had a soft spot for the dark and brooding game warden with an aura of loneliness from his appearances in the previous books but seeing him with his tiny dancer turned me into a puddle of mush. He was so caring and gentle with her, protecting her against the mean girls, even though they were only children. The heroine Aspen was perfect for him, her sunshine to his grumpiness and she pulled him into her light. But Aspen had a past, one that had her living in fear of discovery and when that past caught up with her, there wasn’t nothing Roan wouldn’t do to protect his newfound family.

Shadows of You pulled me in from the prologue. It’s been obvious throughout the series that both the hero and heroine had secrets but who would’ve thought the pain that they lived with daily. This book had everything I love in a book. From a gripping plot filled with mystery, intrigue, danger and suspense, wonderful characters and a smalltown setting that is anything but cosy, I can’t recommend this author strongly enough if you’re a fan of the romantic suspense genre.

I honestly don’t think I’ve listened to a Catherine Cowles’ audiobook and not instantly been transported into the story by the narrators and in Shadows of You, together Zachary Webber and Maxine Mitchell made for yet another fantastic listening experience. Zachary imbued every ounce of Roan’s loneliness and longing into his portrayal while the versatile Maxine gave a wonderful performance not only giving voice to the weary but fierce Aspen but also the young and effervescent Candy. Her Mr Grizz tugged at my heartstrings, and I loved every second of this story as Roan not only fell in love with Aspen but with his tiny dancer as well.

A beautiful romance brought to life

This was a such a very grumpy male and so sunny female that I wasn’t sure how they’d get together, but they did and the journey was enjoyable if predictable. The inclusion of the most adorable child was a joy. Big story dealt with care.

Surprisingly enjoyable

Fantastic narration for an amazing story!

The book I’ve been waiting for, Roan!

Roan’s book was everything I could have wanted and more and that it features Aspen as his match was the cherry on the cake!

Roan has been a mystery since book one, quiet and grumpy, when we find out the reason he is so reserved it’s heartbreaking.

We have only had tidbits of Aspen in the run up to this book, we know there’s a story and secrets but not what. When her backstory is blown open it rocks the town, and it’s devastating! Only what should’ve been in the past is suddenly thrust back in to the now as the nightmare starts all over again.

In amongst their turmoil a beautiful love story develops, one that is life changing for both of them.

This is an emotional and amazing story Catherine has given us for Roan and Aspen, I couldn’t put it down.

This time when the twist comes it came with an almighty slap in the face. Just brilliant!

Now bring on Lawson that dude needs a break and his HEA!

The story I’ve been waiting for..Roan!
