Story
What’s better than three monstrous hotties? How about four.... While helping the trio of sexy-as-sin monsters who followed me home, I lost my apartment, my sense of security, and more blood than was really healthy. Somehow my new lovers make me feel like I’ve gotten the better part of the bargain. Unfortunately, their newly-rescued boss isn’t so keen on humans. I get the feeling he’d rather rend me limb from limb than give me the time of day. Too bad for him my mortal skills are just too useful to toss aside.

Story
For years, the monsters who killed my family have held me in a cage. Brutalized and half-starved. Only kept alive so they can steal my blood. Until one evening when four eerily gorgeous men break me out of my prison. They give me a soft bed and delicious food. They say they'll protect me — but their generosity may come at a price. My rescuers are monsters like my captors: fae who shift into wolves. A curse gripping the faerie realm turns them wild under the full moon. Only my blood can cure their rage.

Story
When the vicious ruling mages launched a war against their heirs, they tore the magical community in two — and I walked out on my family to stand with their enemies. You could say I was championing compassion over tyranny, but really it was pure self-preservation. Two years after our victory, I’m tutoring a way-too-charming heir who’s totally off limits, dodging my parents’ vengeful spells, and trying to figure out where I’ll land after graduation. My once-prestigious ancestry isn’t doing me any favors. Most of my peers look at me with more suspicion than warmth.

Excellent book
- By Gailp on 25-04-22
Summary
One sassy pyromaniac thief, three sexy-as-sin monsters, and a paranormal conspiracy of epic proportions.
It was an ordinary job. Another night, another asshole collector of the supernatural. I free some poor little beasties from their cages, pocket a few trinkets to pay my bills, and burn the place down on my way out. Just call me the Robin Hood of monster emancipation.
I didn’t count on three manly monsters following me home like lost puppies. Stunningly hot lost puppies, but still. Now I’ve got a seductively cheeky incubus, a sweetly enthusiastic demon, and a grimly stoic angel camped out in my kitchen. They’re determined to repay me for my help, and they won’t get out of my apartment until they’re satisfied we’re even.
To be fair, they’ve got no place else to go. A covert band of hunters captured their boss, and the trail is ice-cold. I’ll lend a hand if it means I can send them on their way...and when it looks like we’re up against the same creeps who murdered the person I loved most, you’d better believe I’m all in.
Track down the baddies.
Steal back the boss.
Don’t get killed along the way.
Oh, and maybe hook up with a monstrous hottie or two.
Piece of cake.
I’m so going to regret this.

Loved it!
I have just finished this book and I must admit, I really enjoyed it. The story was very unusual to other PNR and RH books I have read. There was a great storyline to this book, painting a much bigger picture that that of just the main characters. Sorsha is a brilliant character, strong, brave, feisty but also funny, I loved her singing her made up songs, they were hilarious and I could hear her singing them along to the music of the original songs lol. I read the book on ku but also listened to it on Audible and the narrators did a brilliant job. This is an amazing series and I have just downloaded the next book and can’t wait to start it. With the appearance of Omen, the dynamic within the group has changed and it will be very interesting to see what happens next.

Perfectly balanced plotline
I received a free audio copy of this book directly from the author for an honest review.
Eva Chase has already made me zone in to another series! A strong female lead and three monsters including the most adorable Snap. I’m totally in love with how cute and innocent he is. The plot keeps you fully engaged with so much going on and non stop action. Normally I’m not all about the action but the interaction between characters but this has such a perfect balance for me. Intriguing world building, brilliant, characters and an amazing plot, throw in a heaping of steaminess and what more could you ask for! Looking forward to the next book so much!

I really enjoyed this book. I was so engrossed that I listened to it in one sitting and was shocked when the credits rolled. The story is well balanced between action and character development.
Sorcha is a great female lead. I love her fierce nature, her empathy is believable and she's just what these shadowkind males need.
I will definitely be checking out the next book in this series.

Great Reverse Harem Listen!
I really enjoyed this listen! I found it an interesting and unique RH urban fantasy with lots of action and twists and tuns. I also love that the relationships are progressing at different speeds, leaving romantic suspense while still enjoying some steamy scenes! The FMC is also badass and her guys are all well-defined characters and each one is unique. I can't wait to find out what happens next with these characters!
The narration was fantastic! Vanessa Moyen and Aiden Snow are both favorites of mine and they did not disappoint.

Loved the story, buuuuut...
I chose this book in Kindle & opted for whispersync/audio also, because I've been too busy to sit still & read a book from beginning to end lately. I love being able to toggle back & forth. I really did enjoy this book, but the narration drove me nuts. Aiden Snow did a nice job on narration, but the weird accent that Vanessa Moyen gave Thorn was super annoying. In the beginning of the book, when Thorn's character was introduced, it was said that "His voice came out deep and gravelly" & "Thorn’s formal way of speaking and outfit of tunic and trousers suggested any significant time he’d spent here had been a few eras ago". That was in no way how Vanessa portrayed Thorn. What really drove me crazy though, was that while Vanessa portrayed Thorn with the weird & annoying accent... Aiden portrayed Thorn with no accent. It sounded deep & formal, the way you would expect from the description. I don't know how in the world this uber oops was overlooked. I personally think that a male narrator should follow the lead of the female narrator, when portraying the female characters. & the female narrator should follow the lead of the male narrator, when portraying the male charachters. Is it not normal for both narrators to have a sample, prior to the start of production, when producing dual narration? Ugh! I sure hope they figure this out before the second book. I really did enjoy the book. But I found myself waiting until I could actually read the Vanessa chapters in Kindle & then only listening to Aiden's narrated chapters... which wasn't convenient, nor what I had planned :(
*** Other than the weird accent of Thorn, Vanessa's narration was actually very good!

4.5 Stars for this comedic RH with dark undertones
I really enjoyed this first book in Eva Chase's new series! I wasn't expecting it to be so funny, but it definitely won me over. I will say it was a little hard for me to get engrossed, not sure why, but once I was like 30 mins into the audiobook I was hooked. I enjoyed the set-up Eva gave us for the rest of the series. I am intrigued by what this evil organization is doing and how the MCs are all involved. I love the 3 guys, each with their own flaws/darkness but the way they are loyal and protective of Sorsha, but they are learning she can handle things on her own. I loved the humor with our devourer, who is seeing the human plane in a new light/for the first time. I fell for the sexy incubus right away, I can tell he has an ooey gooey center and is falling hard for the feisty yet vulnerable thief. And the reveals on the stoic and sometimes unemotional (definitely keeps this close to the vest) made me want mooooore from him haha. And I am so unsure what the new character will do to this dynamic. I cannot wait to dive into book 2 on audiobook soon ❤️
For the narration, Eva got some power hitters for sure! I love Aiden's voices, he always has that tremble that really works for paranormal audiobooks. Like sometimes it doesnt sound really how smooth his tone is. Vanessa is a powerhouse for sure, and does amazingly with funnier books. I loved her in Curse of the Gods, so sometimes her male voices made me instantly go back to the Abcurses but thats not anyones fault, her voice is so distinct though. I thought they did amazingly, nothing to fault from me.
I would recommend this series to anyone, especially those looking for humor in even a darker themed book! I loved how Snap reacted to things, so adorable and made my evening walks during this pandemic super enjoyable hahaha. People gave me some funny looks while I am walking past them but oh well hahaha. I am excited to see what Eva does with these Shadow creatures and how they can team up to defeat this evil conglomerate/organization. I am nervous about Omen, but we shall see ❤️❤️❤️

Ready for the next one!
This was an interesting read. The author did a stellar job at world building and vividly bringing each character to life in my imagination. A few parts were a little slow-paced for my liking but I never lost my overall intrigue. I’m geared up to read the next installment!! Good narration - I love Aiden Snow!

Fantastic new series
I'm going to love this new series. Sorsha is a great character. She is determined to free all the supernatural creatures she can from the rich collectors who buy them on the black market. One particular night she does her usual break-in and frees various shadow monsters by giving them shadows to escape through and then cutting them an escape route in their cages. She is astonished to find a separate room with three huge cages in it that contain?? Unfortunately, she sets off an alarm and after hastily freeing - whatever they are - she torches the place and manages to make her own escape. Same ole, same ole. Until she wakes up the next morning to find herself the proud, er, owner of three huge shadowmen. Apparently she saved them and now they were determined to repay her, whether she wanted them to or not.
So starts Sorsha's adventures with Thorn, Snap, and Ruse. Thorn is brawn, Snap has the look of a sun god, and Ruse is, well, Ruse is an incubus. A very tasty looking incubus and he needs, er. to replenish his energy. Sorsha finally gives in, I mean a girl needs some lovin' every now and then and who better than an incubus? It seems the guys have sort of misplaced their boss, Omen. Well, actually he was captured before they were, and not by a collector. Sorsha agrees to use her contacts to help them find him. Read what happens for yourself. Enjoy.
I was given an advanced copy of this audio book by the author. My review is voluntary.

fun for what it is
I recommend this if you like a bit of escapism sci-fi romance adventure!!
It's not award winning literature, but the characters have development and growth which is essential to any book and I would argue especially important to science fiction, which can't rest its laurels on real-world assumptions. It has pretty good world building as well and just enough unexplained yet teased at characters and backgrounds that I think I will pick up the next book.
It has pretty darn yummy, tantalizing male figures and just the right amount of eroticism and good sex scenes. I would say it's just the right amount without going into dirty / p*rn territory, however, she has what I would call loose morals which make me dislike her intelligence and relatability as a decent human.
other comments... SPOIL ALERT... and a little bit of constructive criticism + book club discussion if you feel like reading more...
Coming from a lady who likes me some romance novels, I am certainly not a prude. I am a bit of a feminist, and I really detest the word "slut" as it is commonly used for women. Having said that, the way that Sorsha hooks up with every man in the gang, with practically back-to-back sex in a group of "friends" or colleagues is why she goes into that territory. This behavior and lack of morals makes it a bit more cheesey (porn like because it's ridiculous). I know. I did say I like sci-fi and to escape reality. But my favorite kind of sci-fi is when you have a relatable smart human/hero/heroine who will make decisions that you would make ( or someone you can imagine) amidst a crazy world where things are not possible. That's the fun in sci-fi is imagining how a real person would react. IMHO. 3 men is just too much. Giving The benefit of the doubt, maybe she was trying to be original and break the plot cliche of indecision between two men?
Last comment, so you can better judge my comments knowing where I'm coming from as you read this, I feel women should be allowed to sleep around just as much as men. If that is their choice there shouldn't be a double standard in judgment. They can do what they want, they can have sex with who and when they want, but it's a whole different thing when you 'poop where you work' and purposely try to set friends against each other. She is apparently so horny she ignores people's feelings except of course her own selfish need to protect herself emotionally, yet not at all physically. She's a moron. LOL. Bottom line is I feel that her overzealous libido detracks from her intelligence or severely lacking EQ. So while I want to really like her that takes off major points. I don't really like her but I don't hate her.
For the record, I could LOVE a good slutty character, but I don't like dumb people who are unkind.
okay, I am dismounting my high horse.
The bottom line is: I like the book, I would recommend it for frivolous reading and I'm going to read the next. :) But if the heroine(s) continue to be this mean and dumb I definitely won't get beyond book two.
Please excuse any speech-to-text speech-os and lack of automatic capitalizations :(

Fun and captivating storyline, need more!
Vanessa Moyen and Aiden Snow truly bring this story to life. They also make sure following dialogues is a breeze, a fun one at that, given what is written, I so love this story. This is one of those audiobooks that might be so much better than reading the book yourself. Such great performance, true to the characters, love it!
Shadowkind are the monsters in this otherwise quite normal contemporary world. They come in all sizes, shapes and inclinations, which is intriguing and promising stroy-wise. Some we know would be called fae or demon in other stories but here they’re all Shadowkind. Able to travel through the shadows, seemingly vanishing or teleporting themselves.
Some humans don’t know they exist, others do. And of course, there’re always some that fear them, just because they are unfamiliar so they are labeled as monsters and to be avoided. Others only see a form of magic that might be used to their own advantage somehow. And then there are collectors. Some might be collecting them for practical reasons, to sell or something like that but some just collect them like trophies. Collecting them as if they were pokémons or coins, stamps, cards, or any other kind of collectable items.
Those who know of their existence and have interacted with them, see the real beings underneath the monster they are labeled to be.
Sorsha is one of those people. Not only is she a member of a (secret) group that aims to protect the Shadowkind but in secret she is also an elusive vigilante breaking in and freeing the Shadowkind that are trapped in such collections.
The bigger the creature, the harder to control keeping it alive (they need some amount of food and exercise to prevent them from withering away) so Sorsha mostly finds little creatures.
She is dumbfounded when she finds herself in a room so big it’s more like a warehouse filled with cages. The number of cages is bigger than she’s ever seen but then there are those three really big cages. The bigger the creature the more powerful so she is baffled by either this collectors hubris to be able to control them or his resources that he actually can keep such large creatures without problems.
She also needs a second to wonder whether freeing these creatures would be good or bad but seeing as they are living beings just like other Sadowkind, she didn’t need long to think about setting them free.
But it seems, there is a complication about freeing those 3 big creatures that she couldn’t have foreseen. When these 3 rather human-like creatures show up the next day, claiming to be forever in her debt for freeing them, the fun stuff (for us readers at least) truly begins!
The way the Shadowkind can be trapped in cages, held in bright without shadows anywhere they can escape to and the creatures becoming a sort of dark misty cloud with some features visible every now and then is great. Rather heartbreaking but storywise it is well thought out and it all feels like it could be real.
I also found the trio of men sooo well presented, one of them is new to this world, another seems to come from the Middle Ages and the author never forgets this, making for some fun parts and some hilarious ones. So thumbs up for the story, it’s characters, their interactions, the way it’s narrated and more. I shall definitely continue this series!
While this is a RH Romance, it is not instalove. It’s not completely slow-burn, although it has some slow-burn but it’s not instantaneous either, it evolves naturally.

Amazing narrators
This is another amazing start to a series. The world and introduction of the characters is compelling and I really want to find out more about them. The Narration is taken care of by 2 of my favourite narrators and I love how they add that extra pinch of personality to these characters. Very well done indeed!
