For Kellik, nothing matters so much as defeating his father and destroying his reign over Port Gloom. But as powerful as Kellik has become, his father will surely crush him if he doesn't stay three steps ahead. Toward that end, he'll have to employ every ounce of cunning, break every rule, wrest ever advantage, and bring the very fury of the Hanged God down upon Port Gloom.

Story
My name's Noah Kilmartin. I'm from Ruddock, Ohio, and I'm absolutely, 100 percent unqualified to save the universe from the slavering demonic hordes of the super evil queen Lilith. Too bad nobody asked my opinion. All I've got to do is pass five lethal trials that'll prove I'm the universe's last chance at salvation. To do so, I'll have to lean hard on those three years of Okinawan jiu-jutsu classes I took in high school, learn to wield my new magic sword, and, oh yeah - select five women to flesh out my team.

Sebastian Frost’s most recent memory was waking up in a field naked, in a body that wasn’t his own, in a world that definitely wasn’t his own, and three stunning pointy-eared women staring right at him. He also remembered hair as white as starlight, eyes like amethysts, and the name Shalia. Fortunately, it was the right name to know. Shalia was the elves’ goddess, and that made him her herald.

Gregory and his wives fought honorably and hard to advance to the finals, where their last fight was against the Eternal Flame. With their rigorous training and communication, they managed to defeat the arrogant clan, letting them stand alongside their novice friends as champions. The excitement of being the champions wasn’t the happiest part of their year, though. That came after the tournament, when all five of their friends—Nessa, Daciana, Victoria, Clover, and Ling—joined Aether’s Guard.

Have you ever felt like there was something inside of you pushing your actions? A dormant beast, so to speak. I know it sounds crazy. But, that’s the best way I could describe how I’ve felt for a long time. I thought it was normal, some animal part of the human brain that lingered from evolution. But, this is the story of how I learned I wasn’t exactly human, and there was a world underneath our own where all the things that go bump in the night live. And, that my beast was very real indeed.

Summary
The band is in trouble. Port Gloom is aflame behind them, and hundreds lie dead in their wake as Kellik and his companions are forced to flee their ancient home. But despite the chaos and carnage they've already caused, one thought remains their focus:
Exacting ever greater revenge on the Family.
Yet the truths that Kellik discovered about his heritage threaten to shatter his group's bonds of trust and intimacy just when he needs them most. Weighed down by internal suspicion and the horrors revealed in the Sodden Hold, they must travel to the degenerate and perilous swamp city of Port Lusander, where their every weakness will be used against them.
There is nothing, however, that Kellik won't do to get his vengeance. With witches, assassins, and even necromancers by his side, the forces arrayed against him have no idea what they're in for....

"So... when's book three out?"
Is the question every Mike Truk fan is asking right now.
Fan's who love his detailed and lusciously described worlds.
Fan's who demand more from, not only the protagonists and his companions, there banter and growth, but from their enemies and everyone in between.
In Shadow Rogue Ascendant, we pick up directly from book one and the foot doesn't leave the peddle until the very end. Despite that, despite all the action and swashbuckling violence, most of the book's charm comes from those in-between times, from the times when violence is merely an idea. When the protagonist is staring down at his foe in a ballroom, or a tavern, without a sword or any obvious weapon to his name.
Where lesser authors would ignore interactions in favour of plot points and story beats they'd need to hit, Mike allows there characters to react honestly, and then he runs with it.
This story is an easy one to recommend but a hard one to stratify. Yes, it contains the typical grimdark violence and detailed sex scenes classic to Mike Truk novels. It has harem elements and roguish anti-heroes for main characters. Where the good are either corrupt or implacable antagonists, and the bad are truely evil retches. And while magic continues to be wonderous and enigmatic, you get a sense of what is and isn't possible without the sense of deus ex machina many resort to at the last. And yet, this is a light, fun, enjoyable novel that somehow manages to avoid getting bogged down in its own grimness. A remarkable balance making this one of my favourite tales listened to this year!
Meanwhile, Ryan Wests narration continues to be excellent, injecting character and drama to proses and dialogue alike. At times I did struggle to tell apart some of the female characters, but this is no more an issue here than with almost all solo narrator audio tales.

Not one for reviews, but...
I’m not one for writing reviews but after reading the second book in this series, I felt compelled to write one.
I was genuinely blown away by these books and didn’t expect such an amazing plot.
There are very graphic sex scenes but somehow, it takes nothing away from the book. It’s written brilliantly and narrated equally as well.
If you’re looking for a quality fantasy book, you need to check these (and all other Mike Truk books) books out.
Fingers crossed for a movie that can do the books justice!

Started Strong
Started strong but the characters rapidly changing and inconsistent morales really started bothering me.
By the end if you didn’t agree with certain characters racist and or Religious beliefs you were threatened with death.
Plus too many characters are in LitRPGs are dumb but this MC is too dumb for words with way too much luck. As a smart guy with only bad luck I can’t relate at all.

Tiring
The amount that this author uses the underdog card in his writing is tiring. It happened enough in the first book, time to move on. This is getting ridiculous. Where's the character progression? How is this character growing? Any other character with similar genetic blending is a force to reckoned with, but the hero of our fantasy/sexually explicit adventure? Nope. Weak. So weak, I stopped listening because I'm becoming frustrated. The narrator is great, by the way. The majority of the proceeds should go to the narrator for having to continuously hurdle, and interpret through the same redundant situations. I'm not even sure if I want to finish it. Maybe if I'm in the mood for over played, catch-22 situations I'll hit that play button again.
This is just my review. Don't let it stop you. If the description snags your attention, the go for it. Don't base your decisions solely on the reviews of others. Sometimes it's worth giving something a chance, even if others don't like it. Go with your gut.
