Summary

Sex. In a world overwhelmingly obsessed with it, why is the church so silent about it? While our secular culture twists, perverts, cheapens, and idolizes sex, there are gaping holes in the church's guidance of young people. The result is generations of sexually illiterate people drowning in the repercussions of overwhelming sin struggles.

Enough is enough, says Mo Isom. With raw vulnerability and a bold spirit, she shares her own sexual testimony, opening up the conversation about misguided rule-following, virginity, temptation, porn, promiscuity, false sex-pectations, sex in marriage, and more and calling listeners back to God's original design for sex - a way to worship and glorify him. This audiobook is for the young person tangled up in an addiction to pornography, for the girlfriend feeling pressured to go further, for the "good girl" who followed the rules and saved herself for marriage and then was confused and disappointed, for the married couple who use sex as a bargaining tool, for every person who casually watches sex play out in TV and movies and wonders why they're dissatisfied with the real thing, and for every confused or hurting person in-between.

Sex was God's idea. It's time we invited him back into the bedroom.

Best book I have read so far on this topic.

I really enjoyed this book and took so much knowledge and wisdom from it. Sharing her story inspires me and gives me a whole new perspective on the conversation of sexual sin. I keep telling everyone to read it. I absolutely love it, it was so helpful and I know I will continue to refer back to this book all the time.

There’s healing in this level of Transparency!!

Probably the best book with a true level of transparency that any young Christian woman or man needs!
This book has set me free, made me look into my past and even taken up counselling to deal with past hurts and disruptive habits I have used as a way of self help.

Thank you Mo Isom, for having the conversation the church neglects to have.

A Little Disappointed

With a title as provocative as this, I expected more explicit details from the author on real and practical solutions to the problems we face in marriage as a result of not being taught the true meaning and value of sex. I thought she would go more in depth about the potential consequences of being raised to believe sex is a sin, and offer some tips on how to overcome those hurdles. Instead what I heard was pretty much what the church has always preached with one variation: virginity is not simply a physical thing. There are things you could do that will diminish your purity while still maintaining your virginity, and it's purity; not simply virginity; that God wants from us. That was the only new thing I heard. The rest was really all about the author and her testimony which was well-told and relatable, but ultimately pretty useless to me as someone in search of real answers. I get it, pray for God's help, but as the author herself points out: God doesn't simply give you the ability to overcome, he gives you opportunities to overcome. Cool, so what are some things I could put into practice when those opportunities arise? I also didn't like how briefly she talked about masturbation; simply glossing over it as something that shouldn't be done. But as a military spouse who is often away from my husband, we need to find different ways to be intimate with each other.
I applaud the author for being a capable narrator, at no point was I bored or annoyed by her voice. However, unless you just want to hear about this chick's life and how great God is (he really is but that's not what I bought this book for), then this one is not for you.

Good Testimony, But Misleading Title

I enjoyed Isom’s book; I heard about it from Jamie Ivey’s podcast, but I began it eager to read about the systematic issues that the western evangelical church faces as a whole, not the individual experiences of one person. I think before I would recommend this book to someone, I would disclose the content of what it is about. It is Isom’s personal testimony - powerful and glorifying to the Lord, yes; but it does not include a dialogue about the issues of sex and conversations that the church faces, which I assumed it was by how it was worded. Some of the advice is not applicable to everyone, but that’s how it is with every book. Read if, but if you’re giving it to your teen, I’d recommend having conversations about sex before giving this book to them.

Essential! Truth told in Love, about true love.

I loved this book. Mo both writes and reads passionately and compassionately from the depth of her heart and God's. This topic is so needed in our hearts and lives as people in a sex driven culture that doesn't understand it. I particularly loved the chapters towards the end where Mo spoke about "Sexpectations". As a single person it's so hard to frame your mind towards God's view of sex and intimacy when you know nothing but the world's. I came to this book with a desperation to understand it God's way. You don't have to be involved in sexual sin to realize that the picture the world gives you is off base. Just ask yourself "if the sex in the world's way is so fulfilling why do things constantly need to be escalated (often violently and grossly) to keep people interested?". Thank you for sharing what so many people are thinking and showing us how to frame this area of life in God's way.

Must Read. Best book on Sex

The audio book was well read, Mo did a great job narrating her own book. The content of the book is truly remarkable, biblical, authentic, and poetic. These are the conversation the church needs to be discussing!

The Holy Spirit encouraged me to buy this book!

Everyone who struggles with sexual sin should read or listen to this book! Those of us who call ourselves Christians have even more reason to listen, as it explains why God's holy plan for us to WAIT for a loving mate/partner is THE ONLY TRUE WAY to a fulfilling sex life. Thank you so much for writing this book, Mo!

Deeply moving; transformational; powerful

Where some may hesitate at the title, this book is a deeply moving, raw, grace saturated story of Mo’s journey toward heart restoration in the area of sexual sin and bondage. It carries an incredibly important message for the church and for believers today.

Fantastic and freeing

Thank you, Mo, for sharing your heart and life. This book is gospel-infused, as Mo points herself and us to Jesus. A great book for the single, the married, the broken and ashamed, the parent and the child.
