The assassination of heroes was once a warning . . . for an invasion that nearly destroyed the world. Nations were slaughtered, cities were erased from existence, and defending armies were crushed into oblivion. In weeks all life stood on the verge of extinction. But the end did not come. Instead the black horde vanished, leaving terrified survivors...and rumors. As the centuries passed the holocaust faded into legend, and finally myth. Across the southern sea a gifted young man is completing his training.

Seventy-five years ago, the dragons fell from the sky. We thought they were just meteorites - six terrifying explosions rang the world like a bell. When the dust settled, we went on with our lives as though nothing had happened. More than a decade later, five of the eggs hatched. The dragons that emerged were small and weak. They kept to the shadows, working in secret to persuade people to do their bidding, offering magic as payment and reward. Years passed...and still we didn't notice the evil growing in our midst.

Michael J. Sullivan garnered critical raves and a massive readership for his Riyria Revelations series. The first book in his highly anticipated Riyria Chronicles series of prequels, The Crown Tower brings together warrior Hadrian Blackwater with thieving assassin Royce Melborn. The two form a less-than-friendly pairing, but the quest before them has a rare prize indeed, and if they can breach the supposedly impregnable walls of the Crown Tower, their names will be legend.

This is the BEST of the 3
Ben Hale did it again and even better with his 3rd book in The Chronicles of Lumineia. In this 3rd story about Lumineia and the The Second Draeken War, I have gotten to know some of the main Characters better like, Taryn, Liriana(Liri), Trin, Maemi(Mae)and Brayen, Jack & Ciara. I also get to meet some new ones and truly respect their willingness for sacrifice in order to save the RACE from becoming extinct. My favorites were Jack, Terran, & Leary. But each Character plays such an important part in helping. I Love all of the different races Ben has included in this story from the Dwarfs, Druids, Amazons, Dark Elves, and Giants. There is soooo much to take in with this story that I will want to listen to it again soon to just be able to sink it all in completely! This story brought out many emotions from happy, fear and sadness, but in the end I was THRILLED that I took the time to buy it from Audible.com because it was WELL worth my time!!!

Finally got through book three
Any additional comments?
On the positive side, the story idea turned out to be really good in books two and three. Some reviewers have described the series as epic, and it would have been possible to create memorable epic fantasy out of such a good story idea. The volumes would have had to be much longer, however, to enable the building up of a believable mythology and culture of the fictional world and bring the main characters to life. Ben Hale tells the story in more of a comic book style: lots of action but no character development.
Modernisms that I found jarring in book one continued in books two and three. Children are "kids", the expression "guy" is used a few times (as in " Sounds like a good guy to have around", and the heroes sit around eating sandwiches.
It seemed like the main characters spend most of their time (when they're not fighting) smirking, grinning and chuckling. It was very hard to take any of the doomsday story seriously with all the jollity going on.
Judging from this series, Ben Hale has a great imagination, so I hope that his characterization and writing style evolve as time goes on.
