It's often said that when tragedy strikes, the victims were simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. But not Harry and Alice French.

Assaulted by masked men looking for a mysterious package and a man named Renshaw, Alice and Harry manage to convince them that there has been a terrible mix-up.

But nothing prepares Alice and Harry for the web they find themselves trapped in after their assailants leave. Especially as Alice hasn't been completely honest.

After Harry is approached by a woman named Ruth who seems to know more than she's letting on, Alice and their baby, Evie, disappear. When Harry realises he's become a prime suspect in their disappearance, he seeks refuge with Ruth and demands answers, knowing keeping out of police clutches is the only way he'll track his family down.

But how safe really are Alice and Evie tucked away in Gloucestershire with the mysterious Renshaw?

Slow, hard going and dated. Made worse by monosyllabic narrator. Far from thrilling. Probably suit a more mature / sensative audience.

Lots of twists and surprises in this story of an ordinary young couple who get involved in something that they shouldn't have

Couldn't stop listening

I have 1 hour and 52 minutes left to go and can't decide whether to complete the book or not. It isn't that the story is bad or that the characters are a bit dull. I haven't yet met the real Mr Nasty but there is a family at risk and neither of the adults calls the police during the whole scary saga. Why not?? Any reasonable person would have done so at the first threat, and if not then at the second. Surely by the time a baby is kidnapped by psychopaths and on her way to be sold, you would call the police - wouldn't you? But they carry on chasing around with untrustworthy sidekicks for the most tenuous of reasons.
I am tense but not because of the fast pace of the story - but because it's just plain silly.

Diall 999 and this book would be 20 minutes long

Starts off well but there are too many characters with stories that the author wants to develop making it all a bit wishy washy at the end. Overall a good read though.
