About this listen

A woman’s body is found stuffed inside a wheelie bin, stripped of her clothes, drained of her blood, thrown out with the rubbish. Detective Jeff Rickman is on the case. Within hours, the police have their prime suspect. And it’s Rickman himself. Elsewhere, a cruel prank ends with four innocent people burnt to death. Rickman’s convinced there’s a connection with his murdered Jane Doe. But can he unravel the truth and clear his name before anyone else dies? Perfect for fans of Carol Wyer, Lisa Jewell, Karin Slaughter, Jess Ryder, Mark Edwards and Charlie Gallagher, this book was originally published as The Dispossessed.

I really enjoyed the story and the characters, and will listen to more by this author. The narration glitched for me a bit, with drifting accents and odd pronunciations of common words like "lapel" and "hostel" among others. It's probably a bit picky, but they were weird mistakes to make. All in all though, gripping enough to keep me engaged.

Complex and gripping

This was a very strange listen. I found the storyline rather jumbled but the main gripe I have is the narration style. For a book based in Liverpool, there's barely a Liverpudlian accent to be found and the ones that are there, are awful! Some weird pronunciations on quite a few basic words which I also thought odd. Has AI had a hand in this?

I liked the story but found it really hard to listen due to the performance. Married to a scouser I know how they speak. If anything she sounds more like Black Country. Not only that she doesn’t even call some of the places by their he correct name.

Enjoyed these books but as someone born and bred in Liverpool I found the narrator’s pronunciation awful 😣 the liver building is not the liver building it’s l👁️ver building, there was a couple of others but apart from that they were a good listen

Enjoyable

The story is quite good but it is quite fluffed out.
However I am unsure if AI was used to narrate but the pronunciation of many words and places was terrible. It was clear they have never heard a Scouse accent. As we live close to Liverpool it really spoiled it and I almost gave up. I doubt I can survive a second one.

Awful narration almost made me quit
