About this listen

Daisy’s hero is Florence Nightingale, and she hopes to one day become a nurse just like her.

But as a girl growing up in the East End of London in 1912, it seems like all her future holds is dropping out of school to work a tough job in a factory for very little money.

I'm not sure how accurate the story is in regards to the time of women's suffrage as its not a topic I know well. But I found the story incredibly interesting and hearing some of the things happening to the women who were simply trying to obtain equality was eye opening. I particularly liked the narrator in this story. Her ability to switch between East end London, Irish and American was fantastic and not cringy as some of them can be. A really enjoyable listen.

An amazingly interesting insight!

I really enjoyed this audiobook! The narrator gets 5 stars as they were incredible at doing the London voices as well as American further along. I knew a little about the suffragettes but this was a fantastic book to learn even more and also to think about different points of view and feelings about them. It’s hard to believe that it is very recent history for women to have the right to vote. Seems archaic. The story of Daisy was filled with wonderful twists and turns into what would happen next. The plot was very well planned and I really enjoyed listening the whole time. The ending was a little abrupt but also fitting. I love history so the added historical elements of the every day life for Daisy and her family were another highlight. Definitely would recommend!
