Summary
Lincoln Miller, an ex-Navy SEAL turned NCIS special agent, is sent to Aquarius, the world’s only sub-oceanic research facility, located off the Florida Keys, to investigate reports of ocean dumping. A week into his stay, strange red flakes descend from the surface. Scores of fish are dead and dying, poisoned by the debris that turns to powder in Miller’s fingers and tastes like blood.
Miller heads for the surface, ready to fight whoever is polluting on his watch. But he finds nothing. No ships. No polluters.
No oxygen.
Instead, he finds a cloudless sky full of red particles dropping like snow and coating the ocean with a thick film that stretches to the horizon. When a dead blue whale collides with Aquarius, Miller begins a harrowing race to escape the affected area.
Cut off from the rest of the world and surrounded by death, Miller makes his way to Miami, where he discovers just one survivor and the awful truth: The strange phenomenon that robbed the air of its life-giving oxygen was an attack by an enemy reborn from the ashes of World War II. And they’re just getting started.
Miami, Tel Aviv, and Tokyo have all been destroyed. Millions are dead. And if Miller can’t track down and stop those responsible in seven days, the rest of the world is next.

Good Narrator, Too Much Macho Action Hero
I enjoyed listening to this for the first 30 or so chapters, then it started to go off... and towards the end the level of macho-action-hero writing just got too much for me, too corny... sadly causing me to give up on it about 10 chapters before the end. I just stopped caring about the characters and the constant macho stuff got dull and really cheesy. I did try to finish it as I don't like to stop so far in... but... I'd had enough... bored.
I thought the overall story idea was very good. The narrator made it enjoyable too. But in the end the main male characters lost any depth and it turned into a 'look how big my..... 'muscle' ...is' fest! I mean I like action but .... the way it was written near the end was far too cheesy for me. A level of macho bordering on comedy.

A good book, but Robinson has so many better.
Fans of the hoo-rah special forces style of thriller will likely be perfectly happy with this book, and that is awesome.
As a Jeremy Robinson book (all of which I enthusiastically recommend) it does fall a little flat unfortunately. Miller is a very dull protagonist, as is much of the supporting cast. The initial premise started very cool, but ultimately got kinda tucked away.
For Robinson fans, the book is noteworthy for being (unless I'm mistaken) the first appearance of the character Cowboy, who pops up in other Robinson books down the line. He steals most scenes that he's in, and it is evident why he is a fan favorite.
Big plus to this audiobook is the narrator who puts out an A+ performance. It's off to not have RC Bray or Jeffrey Kafer voicing a Robinson book, however Gigante delivers so many distinct voices and languages that he really brings life to the work. I'll have to find more of his work after this.

Great story
When I listened to the first 5min I thought I would not like it. Having persevered a bit longer it turned out to be a fascinating listen

fantastic. couldn't stop listening.
No spoilers:
im already a big fan of this narrator, so I wasnt surprised i lived this book. Jeremy once again pulls out a show stopper. the story kept me hooked from start to finish. the plot is easy to follow with a few twists.
highly recommend. narrator isn't bad either.

Entirely stupid and perfectly entertaining
Where does SecondWorld rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
It was fine. It rattles along at a decent pace, just switch your brain off and try to ignore some of the scientific nonsense going on and you'll be fine.
Which character – as performed by Phil Gigante – was your favourite?
None really. Mr Gigante does a decent job, but characterisation is not his strong suit. Good work on German pronunciation however.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Nope.

gripping Robinson-esque story, great performance.
This is just another fantastic Jeremy Robinson story and overall an incredible performance by Phill. It is an evenly paced story with a thrilling and action-packed undertone. It was expertly narrated by Phill. If you like Jeremy's work, you'll undoubtedly love this book.
