Summary

The 13th thrilling novel in the internationally best-selling Skulduggery Pleasant series, Seasons of War will test the Skeleton Detective and Valkyrie like never before...

War is coming. To avert catastrophe, Skulduggery and Valkyrie are sent on a secret mission that takes them away from everything they know, to a forsaken land of magic and grim, unrelenting terror. It is here that Valkyrie will have to fight the hardest - not only against the enemies who want her dead, but also against her own self-destructive impulses. It's only by crawling through darkness that she'll be able to once again stand in the light....

What the fuck is the voice acting lmao

Skulduggerys voice. What even the fuck. Doesn't fit him. Previous voice actors were better by far. Rupert Degas is FAR superior. Dude was using an Irish accent for American characters too what the fuck LOL. Great story, brilliantly written by Landy but I'd advise anyone who is choosing to listen to the audiobook as their first way of delving into the book not to listen but buy the book so you don't have to listen to the dreadful voice acting. After going back and listening to the earlier audiobooks I can't overstate how much better the voice acting was, especially for Skulduggery. Now he sounds like he's being sarcastic 24/7. It's straight up fucking annoying. You can't imagine him having a deep moment, not with that stupid ass annoying voice. Kevin Hely, this next bit is to you directly. If you don't change up the voice for Skulduggery atleast in the next book there are gonna be consequences buddy. That's your first and only warning. Take heed and tread very carefully buddy.

Great story, Ruined by the narration.

Once again with the new series, The narrator makes it unlistenable. Just read the book. The Narrator clearly cant. Terrible accents as per the last few books. Bring back any of the narrators from the first 9 books. But a top book and story nonetheless. Good for background listening AFTER you have read the book properly without the weird accents and voices.

This book is miserable

The original nine books were absolutely joyful, one of my favourite series in the entire world. Since then it has been a succession of books about trauma, depression, people struggling with real world issues rather than fantastic heroes fighting monsters. But every story ended with the possibility that the next book might not be as bad, but I got halfway through this book and I am never reading another skulduggery pleasant book ever again because the author clearly wants me to stop. Derek Landy is now writing books about lingering death which people don’t recover from, post traumatic stress and the final straw for me, the cold blooded execution by a best friend to put a character out of his misery. It used to be about taking on impossible odds and winning and now it’s just about realism in a fantasy world. Skulduggery pleasant was a joy, it has been totally and utterly destroyed. I never stop reading a book halfway through but I literally cannot bring myself to read on any more because this isAwful. If you love skulduggery pleasant books from the first nine, do not read this. It used to be as fun as Discworld, now it’s as depressing as a fault in our stars.
