I started the series with no idea what I was getting into and quickly got addicted to the story! Loved following the couples through the stories and having the timelines cross over is such a great twist! Narrators are brilliant, I think I’ll have to relisten to this series, love it that much! Spicy and also quite dark but some amazing romance ❤️

I’m so shocked by the reviews I’ve seen giving this book a bad rating, or even a mediocre one that says Butcher and Blackbird was so much better than the two sequels. For me, books 2 and 3 were so brilliant, and whilst I loved B&B… these two just ticked an extra box for me.

I think it was something about the men– they felt a little more fleshed out than Rowan was, maybe, though he was brilliant– and they delighted in the killing less than Rowan did, too. But I liked that about them! They had the darkness in them and would still help when their partner needed it, but it wasn’t something they wanted to do on their own. Relationships need to have two people who have different interests sometimes, as long as you support the other person. And a lot of the complaints I’ve seen for this book revolve around the timeline–the fact that it’s set during the events of the other two books. At first I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about this, it was certainly a surprise but I gave it the benefit of the doubt, and a few chapters in I realised it was the absolute best thing to do. I loved it! I thought it was a really interesting concept, since we saw Rose in the other books but it was never quite clear what her relationship with Fionn was. It was really nice to flash back and see all that play out, and I loved the way their relationship progressed.

The only thing I didn’t like about this book was the third act breakup. I really enjoyed the other two books in this series only having third act conflicts, not breakups - and then I thought that they maybe got engaged a little quick, because unless I’m misunderstanding the timeline here, he proposed after three weeks of them dating. And like, I know they were together for a year before that. But they weren’t actually dating and didn’t even kiss, so it doesn’t count.

Regardless, I loved it. And, as always for this series, the audiobook makes it SO much better, it’s so well acted and really gets you immersed in the book. The story itself is excellent– but for some reason I always find it harder to follow on paper (maybe it’s because I can’t imagine the accents, so the little Irish quirks throw me off?) but audio form really brings it to its full potential.

As one of my most anticipated reads of the year, Scythe & Sparrow did not disappoint. I devoured this book—ate it up, threw it up, and ate it again. It’s the final instalment of the Ruinous Love Trilogy, a series of interconnected standalones about three brothers finding love… and, yes, they’re serial killers, but hey, everyone needs a hobby. Plus, they’re hot and deserve love, so don’t judge. It's fiction, and absolutely incredible. The perfect conclusion, if I do say so myself (and my opinion might mean jack, but it’s mine, and this is the series that got me hooked on dark romance, so that counts for something). I recommend reading the series in order, but they can be enjoyed as standalones too—though the experience is ten times better if you read all three books. It’s only three books, so why not Now, as much as I hate putting someone above my OG Book Boyfriend, Rowan… I’m sorry, dude, but your younger brother just became my new top pick. Jesus Christ, what can I say? I loved everything about this book—from the characters to the plot to the spice. It was perfection personified, and now I’m sad I didn’t grab a Barbara plushie while I had the chance. This book had me laughing, crying, kicking my feet in excitement. It perfectly encapsulates everything this series offers: murder, mayhem, spice, and a cute raccoon addicted to cocaine 😂. The story offers glimpses of characters from the first two books, and its timeline is a bit unique. It starts before Butcher & Blackbird (book 1), runs through both Butcher & Blackbird and Leather & Lark (book 2), and the ending falls after book 2. The two epilogues and bonus chapter offer a special sense of closure and leave you eagerly anticipating what comes next. It was great seeing scenes from the first two books shown through Fionn and Rose’s perspective. I loved how the story stayed true to the series without ever feeling forced. Epilogue 1, told from Rowan’s POV, was an unexpected and nice touch. We didn’t get Fionn and Rose’s engagement from their perspective, but rather through the eyes of an outsider—a character who’s been with us since the beginning. It was oddly comforting, and the nostalgic hints from Butcher & Blackbird worked seamlessly. Epilogue 2 leaves us looking forward to the future, hinting at Autumn’s book next. Autumn’s character appeared briefly in Butcher & Blackbird, so if you haven’t read it, you might miss some context, but it’s easy enough to skip—though I’m getting major stalker vibes… intriguing. The bonus chapter, told from Rose’s POV, beautifully wraps everything up. Yes, I’m talking about the sex swing. Nailed that one. The audiobook was fantastic, as always. I did an immersive read, and Eric Nolan and Samantha Brentmoor were amazing. They brought these characters to life and had me tearing up when I should’ve been doing my job. 10/10. Totally recommend. My first 6-star of the year. You amazing motherfuckers.

The story itself was amazing, as was this whole series, I loved it. But I think one of the things that really made it just that much better was the narrators. They did an amazing job and worked amazingly together, exactly how I imagined the characters to sound.
