Summary

The basics of being a ScrumMaster are fairly straightforward: At face value, all a ScrumMaster needs to do is facilitate the Scrum process and remove impediments. But being a great ScrumMaster, one who truly embodies the principles of servant-leadership and helps move a team to the high performance levels possible with Scrum, is much harder and much more elusive.

In this audiobook, Geoff shares a collection of stories and practical guidance, drawn from over 10 years of coaching numerous Scrum teams that will guide you on your path to greatness.

In this audiobook, you will learn:

  • The skills and characteristics of great ScrumMasters
  • How to generate, maintain, and increase engagement from the team
  • How to increase the effectiveness of the Scrum meetings, such as retrospectives and daily scrums
  • How to foster a more creative and collaborative team
  • How to increase the performance of the team
  • How to know when you are a successful ScrumMaster

Scrum Mastery is for practicing ScrumMasters who want to develop themselves into a great servant-leader capable of taking their teams beyond simple process compliance.

Mike Cohn, in his foreword for the book, said:

"Most books rehash well-trod territory and I don’t finish them any wiser. I am positive I will be referring back to this book for many years."

Was recommended to me and I'd happily recommend it

If you're thinking about moving into the role or new to the role there is a lot to be learnt from this book. If you're a seasoned Scrum Master this book can give you further ideas to enhance yourself in the role and have you thinking differently about tackling the challenges you face. All in all I think it's worth the listen.

A must have for those working with Scrum

I loved this book, very practical and giving lots of examples of how to apply the golden nuggets taught. A book to come back to for tips, it's very well read aswell.

Great ideas

I would say this is a good "principals" of scrum mastery book, I wouldn't say it's a guide nor a introduction but rather a book to hone your skills by listening to examples. I'd imagine many of the ideas here will present themselves in the future.

Best book on Agile and servant leadership

This book is the best book I've found on servant leadership. Whether you're doing Agile or not, there are countless examples in here on how to be an excellent leader.
There are so many new ideas in here that I'd never thought of and I'm quite literally noting these golden nuggets of information down on paper as I listen.

Only thing that puzzles me is, how did the author / proof reader / narrator not realise that one of the anecdotal stories has a team that named themselves after a slang term for genitals?! "Wizard sleeves". Lol, brilliant!

Highly recommended book. I'll definitely be referring back to it over the years to come.

Good Ideas

This book had a lot of good ideas but they ran way too long with each idea. The author could have made this book about 30% shorter and still gotten the same point across. I would say if you are looking to learn about running a scrum team than this maybe a good book to scan through.

too many examples

I didn't like this book, mainly because of the example team stories format. Also the monotone vocals lulled me to sleep.

Certified agilist - still learning

Fresh take. As a manager in an agile company I often find myself explaining and coaching folks on the agile processes to ensure they amd I understand my role and theirs. this book helped to remind me that sometimes the approach needs to be adjusted to be out of the box amd sometimes we should rethink the box. well done!

If only this book was available when I started...

Geoff is so inspirational, providing clear cases that I use as often as possible to help interpret the agile manifesto and principles into daily scrum. This book provides confident answers to typical resistance to change, especially upwards. If you have trouble trying to put into words what you already inherently believe about Scrum and agile, get this book. My hope is renewed in proving Scrum's value, and if the data proves it, helping transform the rest of the company.
