Summary

Reading Scotland's Jesus should be like being called into the living room by your child shouting that they see a little red dot on the head of a TV newscaster, then riding the white hot bullet through the propaganda circuitry of his or her exploding brain. It's a funny book about the news, partly because it was decided that a pornographic book about Scottish Independence wouldn't really sell.

In chapters ranging from International Politics to the Animal World, Scotland's Jesus is allowed the opportunity to showcase his increasingly unsympathetic worldview and disintegrating psyche. A torrent of jokes about recent events provide the framework for a broader philosophical despair. Frankie Boyle uses the stories of the popular press as a springboard to explain the nature of reality and the details of our enslavement to mirthless corporate Warlocks.

Really dull

If this book wasn’t for you, who do you think might enjoy it more?

I just dont know who the audience is for this.

Has Scotland's Jesus: The Only Officially Non-racist Comedian put you off other books in this genre?

no

Would you be willing to try another one of Angus King’s performances?

no

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Dissapointment, the book was very cheap so worth a punt. I assumed it was a biography continuation, it is simply the jokes that arent that great read out in a kind of running dialouge. I love Frankie and have seen him live many times in clubs, i feel bad but despite perseverance i couldnt get past chapter 5.

Any additional comments?

I think if this was read by Frankie it would have been better, i can understand why he doesnt do this however. Angus King sounds fine theres just something not right about someones comedy material being read out by another, it doesnt fit.

It's Frankie Boyle. Need I say more?

It's Frankie Boyle. Need I say more?

Exactly what you'd expect. Chances are you'll find something in it offensive. But hilarious.

Clever man but too crude for my liking.

Anyone who likes Frankie Boyle's stand up and TV appearances will enjoy this. He is always honest and witty. But I find the constant wish to shock the listener a bit tedious and over the top. I got bored about half way through and found I wasn't really listening anymore. No subject is off limits which is fine but I will avoid his stuff in future as it didn't appeal to me. If you are a fan already then this book won't let you down.

Used to be funny.

Would you try another book written by Frankie Boyle or narrated by Angus King?

Wasted three peoples time, his , the narrator and mine. Preoccupation with masturbation tedious after a very short time.

Would you ever listen to anything by Frankie Boyle again?

No

Darkly hilarious

Very well written and very thought provoking but ultimately superbly humorous in frankness that offended me in ways that I couldn’t help laughing at.

A fan of the man but this book is painful

What would have made Scotland's Jesus: The Only Officially Non-racist Comedian better?

It's an unyielding rant jumping from one topic to another. This book would be improved by greater structure and also by just being a bit funnier. It comes across as an angry man ranting at you in a pub rather than listening to a comedian.

Has Scotland's Jesus: The Only Officially Non-racist Comedian put you off other books in this genre?

No, I listen to a lot of these kinds of books and generally enjoy them.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

Had a good laugh at the introduction.

Any additional comments?

I just couldn't get even half way in before giving up. Even though I'm a fan of Frankie and think he's a clever man this book just doesn't deliver.
