Summary

Marla Wolfblade of Hythria is determined to restore her family's great name, but conspirators surround her: The Sorcerers' Collective, the Patriots - even members of her own family. She must make sure her son Damin lives to be old enough to restore the Wolfblade name to its former glory.

Elezaar the Dwarf is a small man with big secrets - but that doesn't matter to Marla Wolfblade. Her brother is the High Prince of Hythria, and, in this fiercely patriarchal society, her fate will be decided on his whim. She needs someone politically astute to guide her through the maze of court politics - and Elezaar the Dwarf knows more than he lets on. As Elezaar teaches Marla the Rules of Gaining and Wielding Power, Marla starts on the road to becoming a tactician and a wily diplomat - but will that be enough to keep her son alive?

Critic reviews

"...showcases the Australian writer's skill at dramatizing the convoluted schemes and backstabbing of king making and power politics... Fallon sets the stage for another lively fantasy saga full of intriguing characters, smart dialogue and twisty plotting." (Publishers Weekly)

RUINED BY POOR NARRATOR :-((

Is there anything you would change about this book?

About the book, No. But I would definitely change the narrator. When I read these books, I really enjoyed them, but they have been totally ruined by Maggie Mash.

What other book might you compare Wolfblade to, and why?

The only thing that come immediately to mind is the Demon Child trilogy. As to why; this is a prequel to that story.

Would you be willing to try another one of Maggie Mash’s performances?

NO NO NO!!! Why did every character sound as though they were so drunk they could barely speak coherently. I only managed to listen to the first six chapters, and just couldn't listen to any more.

Do you think Wolfblade needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Wolfblade is the first book in a trilogy, so I know that it has two follow up books.

Any additional comments?

Maggie Mash totally slaughtered this story. I really loved the Demon Child Trilogy, read by Imogen Church, and wish that Ms Church had agreed to read this series as well. I am mightily disappointed by this rendition of one of my favorites. I will watch for other books read by Maggie Mash, and avoid them like the plague. :-(( :-((

Too Many Loopholes

I did love this book .... But! All was going well until the plot involving Mahkas Damaran. This plot was one you could drive a bus through, which was quite disappointing, so I dropped a star. Otherwise, it was an enjoyable listen and didn't seem to stop for breath.

Give it time and you won't be disappointed

Didn't get straight into it but by the end I felt part of everything going on and didn't want it to end!

outstanding!

This is well read and the start of an amazing series. Jennifer Fallon is not afraid to make sudden changes that make the story all the more believable.
