An eerie light proclaims the arrival of a mysterious watcher in the woods. And one solitary man begins a desperate battle against something unknown - and unknowable.

Broad daylight, Los Angeles....
An ordinary morning erupts in cataclysmic violence. A young family is shattered in a heartbeat.

Fate will lead this family to an isolated Montana ranch, but their sanctuary will become their worst nightmare. For there they will face a chillingly ruthless enemy, from which no one - living or dead - is safe.

Critic reviews

"[A] gripping parable about the real cost of "getting away from it all." ( Publishers Weekly)
"Christopher Lane's pace perfectly captures the acute, restless fear that eventually encompasses all the characters." ( AudioFile)

Winter Moon

Excellent book and narration. This is the second book I've listened to by Dean Koontz and narrated by Christopher Lane, the first (and probably the better) being Lightning. Lots of twists and turns as expected. I'd recommend this book to anyone.

enjoyable

Although not one of Dean Koontz' best, this story is very enjoyable and worth listening to. Christopher Lane does a good job as a narrator of keeping the atmosphere of the book.

GREAT STORY

This one has aliens, dogs, fires, and winter in Montana. He must like Montana, several stories are set there. It is a good story with a few twists and turns. But then Koontz is very good at that. It's a good book, try it.

Published as Invasion in 1975 by Aaron Wolfe

EVERY FORTRESS HAD THE POTIENTIAL TO BECOME A PRISON.
This was originally published in 1975, under the name "Invasion" and Koontz used the pseudonym Aaron Wolfe. This is only scary in the same vein that an Ira Levine book is scary. In one point in the book DK describes the writings of Blackmon and James as, HEAVY ON ATMOSPHERE AND LIGHT ON SUBSTANCE. I chuckled as I thought that was a great description of what I was hearing. In his own words here are some more descriptions of DK's early writing: BY THE TIME SHE ENDED A PARAGRAPH SHE COULD NOT RECALL A WORD OF IT. BEYOND BLANDNESS, NOTHING, NOTTA. EVEN THOUGH IT SEEM LIKE AN ETERNITY ONLY 5 SECONDS HAD ELAPSED.

Koontz eventually become a great writer, but his early books are just not very good. Any book Koontz wrote after 2000 will be great, but avoid the 1980's and below.

Don't waste your time

I am a Koontz fan, and I have read over a dozen of his books...this one is just plain dumb. Go read Fear Nothing, Seize the Night, Watchers, or Lightning instead.

A little out there...

Although I enjoyed the listen it was a little predictable. Almost a "Scary Movie" type of book. You knew what was going to happen, you knew the charactor was going to open that door and you knew what was going to be behind it. The reader was excellent and it was a pleasure to listen. I had gotten away from Koontz for a few years now switching to a different author and decided to give him another try. It wasn't disappointing but also not one of his best. The last chapter was really unbelivable and out there. While I would tell you to listen I would also tell you that he has alot better ones to listen to.

Winter Moon - Eerie

As eerie as a campfire tale come to life in the deepest woods, but with the author's signature joviality in times of peril.

Quality, as always

Mr. Koontz has again delivered a winner. Story, plot and characters are first class and narrator delivered a very good performance. Recommend this book to all.

Mediocre

Not his best. Gets good at about chapter 18, but it's not worth slogging through the first 17 to get there. Try Tick Tock, Phantoms, or Darkfall.
