Publisher's Summary

In the world of Draenor, the strong and fiercely independent Frostwolf Clan are faced with increasingly harsh winters and thinning herds. When Gul'dan, a mysterious outsider, arrives in Frostfire Ridge offering word of new hunting lands, Durotan, the clan's chieftain, must make an impossible decision: abandon the territory, pride and traditions of his people or lead them into the unknown.

An original tale of survival, conflict and magic that leads directly into the events of Warcraft, an epic adventure from Legendary Pictures and Universal Pictures based on Blizzard Entertainment's global phenomenon.

    "A lukewarm book"

Despite loving C.G.'s book, for the most part, this prequel seems very washed out and tacked on.
Compared to her previous work in Lord of the clans; Rise of the Horde; Arthas; and Tides of Darkness, Warcraft: Durotan lacks whatever else the others had to make them so enthralling.

setting aside the fact that this is a movie adaptation - ergo a lot of the story and characters background is incorrect or "adjusted", the book reads in a very dull manner and failed to grasp me, I did not feel like I had to have "more" like those books that you just can't put down and you itch to pick it up again whenever you can.
The story is dull, and apart from conversations with Gul'Dan and the odd battle with the "other" orcs, nothing else managed to keep me ar the edge of my seat or aching for more.

My strong advice is to read Rise of the Horde, by the same author, instead. By doing so you will be getting a much better story AND the accurate Durotan story.

Things like Durotan only catching "glimpses" of Draenei through his lifetime, instead of, well, what actually happened, made me cringe.

Give this one a skip and pick up the real Durotan prequel with Rise of the Horde, and trust me, you'll understand much better why Durotan is such an honorable yet burdened orc.

    "Great for free trial."

loved the story, really enjoyed the performance. Looked at other books and refuse to pay the amount asked for them, which is disappointing. Far too expensive for what they are.

    "Amazing but lacking action"

This was my first audio book experience and it was amazing! I found myself excited to get a spare half hour to sit down and listen to it. The story is amazing and the characters are portrayed fantastically.

If I had to criticise I would say the book itself could have a little more action.

    "why are the orcs cockney?"

why does guldan sound like a puckish rogue? the fact that everyone sounds like a wimp and the red orcs sound like a poor arnie knock off is what put me off. the reading outside of the speaking parts are great and easy listening, but no effort was put into character voices, and why did dektar go from sounding like a troll to a soft spoken gentleman? the lack of effort made it hard to a defrenciate between characters.

    "Proud Orcs!"

I greatly enjoyed the tone of this book and the representation of the orcs in this world. The presentation of their rituals and their sense of pride and honour. It made connecting with their story all the more touching.

The narrator did an excellent job of putting some variety in the gruff voices of the orcs, as it would be very easy to have them all sound very similar.

Having finished this just before going to see the movie, I can confirm that it's a great lead up, which had me feeling far more empathy for some of the characters that make it beyond this story and into the new feature film.

"Great for fans and loremasters alike"

In all the book was very entertaining and the narrator did an exceptional job. The one thing that may have threw me off at first was the narrators accent. Prepare for British orcs. Other than that, a great story and experience overall.

    "Another great Christie Golden book"

Some may overlook this one since there were a few other wow books released around the same time, but I suggest this not missing it. The story touches on struggles and the foundation of the orcs in a compelling way. The story pulls you in and if you are a fan of other wow books it is one to definitely pick up.

    "A new outlook on Orcs!"
What made the experience of listening to Warcraft: Durotan the most enjoyable?

After having been a World of Warcraft player for over a decade, I have always loved to lore of the game, and recently reached out to the novels for even more lore. After listening the "Jaina Proudemore: Tides of War" by Christie Golden and loving her story telling I was excited to jump into another book written by her. "Durotan: Warcraft" drew me in from the first sentence and did not let go.

What did you like best about this story?

It was amazing to be able to hear the story of how Durotan, and his Frostwolf clan of orcs came to join the Horde. The hardships that these Orcs had to go through is just heartbreaking, and thats coming from a loyal member of the Alliance!

What about Toby Longworth’s performance did you like?

Toby Longworth's performance on the audio book is just spectacular. He really gets into all the characters and their voices are great! You can also hear the energy in him just describing the scene! I look forward to finding more audiobooks narrated by him.

"A Very Vivid Picture of the Frostwolves's Plight"

I am simply amazed once again by Christie's use of vivid and picturesque descriptions in this novel.

The struggles of the Frostwolves clan, as well as Durotan's dilemma and turmoil in keeping his clan together; to shoulder a huge burden in undertaking the helm from the sudden demise of Garad.

And I applause Toby Longworth's voice acting which really gave not only life, but soul into the characters that we all know and dearly love.

There were times where my hair stood on ends during climactic moments, all thanks to the power and amplifying tone of Toby's voice.

A great story, but unfortunately the ending was weak and all too sudden.
