Summary

Football has come to the ancient city of Ankh-Morpork - not the old fashioned, grubby pushing and shoving but the new, fast football with pointy hats for goalposts and balls that go gloing when you drop them. And now, the wizards of Unseen University must win a football match, without using magic, so they're in the mood for trying everything else.

The prospect of the Big Match draws in a street urchin with a wonderful talent for kicking a tin can, a maker of jolly good pies, a dim but beautiful young woman who might just turn out to be the greatest fashion model there has ever been, and the mysterious Mr Nutt (and no one knows anything much about Mr Nutt, not even Mr Nutt, which worries him, too).

As the match approaches, four lives are entangled and changed for ever. Because the thing about football - the important thing about football - is that it is not just about football.

This Audible Original multicast dramatisation is directed by the multiaward-winning Dirk Maggs, best known for his adaptations of Douglas Adams' Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere for the BBC.

Starring Tom Alexander, Samantha Béart, Pippa Bennett-Warner, Mark Benton, Stephen Briggs, Stephen Critchlow, Jon Culshaw, Phil Davis, Ray Fearon, Tony Gardner, Edward Harrison, David Holt, Mathew Horne, David Jason, Josie Lawrence, Toby Longworth, Harry Myers, Maggie Service, Andrew Spooner, Steven Webb, Keith Wickham and Jaime Winstone.

‘Radio’ drama not audio book

I thoroughly enjoyed this. If you already had very firm ideas of how characters should sound then it might not work for you. Come to it with an open mind and it’s very good.

Excellent - more discworld please!

As a fan of all the discworld books I’ve been waiting for some new recordings. The existing recordings on audible are of such low quality as to be unlistenable (definitely a word). Please remaster them or commission some new productions! Especially the City Watch or Rincewind stories :-)

Academicals

Four stars because it's not the book
I read, but as an adaptation it's
A good well put together listen

Pratchett at his best. Good for Discworld fans!

Not one of my favourite Pratchett books, but as an audio drama this was superb.

More please, Audible!

Well worth a listen

Terry Pratchet had written numerous Disc World novels and this is probably not one of the best ones but the performance is excellent and sparkles with all the zany life of the various characters. Well worth a listen.

Preferred it to the book

I'm a huge Pratchett fan but enjoyed this recording more than the book. I love Josie Lawrence in it and apart from Dibbler the voices were very good. would recommend.

Loved this version

I’m a huge terry Pritchett fan and I felt this production was well cast, sound effects were used judiciously and it was a rip roaring ride. My only complaint was it was over too soon!

brilliant

was greatly read and enjoyed the different people in it, parts are very fun and great background noises etc. was amazing for me as I am dyslexic which makes it hard for me to read books, so glad I was able to listen to this amazing story.
