Publisher's Summary

Ophelia's husband disappears at the most inopportune times. After 10 years, she's not sure why she puts up with it, other than the fact that she's loved him since she first saw him in college, before the physics experiment that started Will involuntarily sliding through time. And there's nothing anyone can do about it. Or is there?

A clever twist on the time travel concept. A small group of students who knew each other at college become reluctant time travellers, each individually unexpectedly vanishing to reappear moments, hours or days later, which can cause far more difficulties for the wives left behind than might at first be obvious. Then one day, a traveller returns, murdered. Something has to be done. But where had he been?

This clever, twisting short story is well written, and nicely narrated by Ann Bumbak whose pleasant, steady and unemotional voice tells the story from the wife's perspective. Unusual and well worth the listen. My thanks to the rights holder who gifted me a complimentary copy of Time's Anchor, via Audiobook Boom, without any expectations in return.

    "Fascinating short romance!"

What if you made certain decisions and the result is something that changes the fabric of your existance? This is a tale that explores that very concept.

Unlike most sci-fi stories, this one is simplicitic in nature making it feel more realistic/ possible. This is a story about a group of friends who innocently participate in an experiment that result in them randomly sliding through time, making subtle changes to history. The challenges of this on their personal relationships is immeasurable and the choices they have to make are difficult. Knowledge about the possibilities, about the future and past is the real currency in this story.

This is a very easy book to listen to. It displays the strength of love and commitment. But mostly it leaves the reader pondering life's 'what ifs.'

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

    "Intriguing and fascinating"

My first foray into the world of Lynda Elder was a welcome trip. Great characters and a very well realised world. Intrigue and mystery is built up over the course of the novel. It is a familiar world to those who are used to The Time Traveller's Wife but with more at stake and characters you begin to really care for. The technical side of timel travel is spoken of but as that isn't the crux of the story it is more on the periphery of the story. Lives change and lives are lost. A different narrator might make more of the variety of characters and I felt the ending was a little rushed but if there was a Time's Anchor 2 I would certainly listen to it.

    "Entertaining short time travel story"

Time's Anchor is an entertaining short audiobook about a man who randomly travels time and his wife who he always returns to. The story has its twists and turns along with a satisfying ending.

The narrator does an ok job. She speaks clearly, but she has a certain rhythm to her narration that I didn't care for.

I received a copy of this book from the author. This is my honest and voluntary review.

    "Enthralling short story"

I enjoyed this short time travel audiobook, it kept my attention and I was sorry when it ended. It is a well written and narrated story that captured my imagination and soon had me pondering about the nature of reality. I quickly became attached to the main characters and loved the way the narrator portrayed them. She captured the worry, confusion, frustration and emotions well, her tone was pleasing and she gave the characters individual voices. At first I thought the story was going to be like 'The Time Travels Wife' but it wasn't, it concentrated more of the effects going into the past can have on the future. This is a well rounded, complete, very entertaining short story that leaves you hoping the author will continue to build on this themes.

    "Undesired and Unexpected Time Travel"

Ophelia and Will met at MIT . He took part in a seemingly uncomplicated trial regarding brainwaves . About 30 people took part. Suddenly they would periodically disappear and reappear. Something changed in their brains that caused it. Without control trying to have a normal life was impossible.
This was an intriguing story with couples who loved each other but the unexpected disappearance and sterility caused drove them apart.
I liked Will and Ophelia so you hoped for resolution.
A quick listen you are drawn into and want to listen to in one seating.
Well worth it.. the narrator was perfect!
Give it a try. I'll be looking at more books by this author.

    "Great short story!"

Great short story about time travel and it's effects. It's about a group of college students who participate in an experiment to earn a little extra cash. An unexpected side effect was time travel. The participants would experience random slips back in time, some lasting a few hours and others a few weeks. Things they do in the past definitely affect the future! Very cool story and great narration!

    "WOW!!! What a short story..."
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I didn't know anything about this book when it was given to me.... but I am so glad it was.... This is a completely different take on time travel than anything I had ever seen before. Truthfully, I was not sure if it was going to end well or badly for Will and Ophelia, and I won't give it away. But, a weird side-effect from a study at MIT causes those who participated to slide through time at random, disappearing at any time, and reappearing in the same place at some undetermined later time, with the subject remembering the old time line, and their spouses and everyone else only remembering the new changes caused by the time travel ("Glad you got a new cat to keep you company while I am gone." "We've had that cat for six years."). I hope that this piques your interest, because this is a very entertaining story, told mostly from Ophelia's point of view. You will not be disappointed (or will you? by the ending, I mean.....).

*** I was given this audiobook in exchange for a fair and truthful review. ***

What did you like best about this story?

Very unique idea for a story.

What about Ann Bumbak’s performance did you like?

Very clear performance, easy to understand and conveying emotion very well.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

    Can the past be changed?

    Any additional comments?

I was VERY pleased with this book....

"New spin on A Time Travelers Wife"

was a very interesting concept, loved the time traveling idea. but I stumbled through the facts. As interesting as they were, there were A LOT for such a short story. ending was nice, glad it turned out for Will; would have liked to see a bit more solved.
Not one of the better narrators I've heard but she wasn't hard to listen to.

"Short story packed with a big punch"

This was such a delightful read. I know a lot of readers don't like short stories but let me tell you, this one gives you a BIG meaty story for how short it is. I got as much out of it as I have many a 300 page book. Right away I found myself engrossed in the suspense of Will disappearing. I have a brother that teaches physics at a local college and this made me think of some of the theories he's posed to me before. Chills actually ran down my spine at what too place in this book. Ophelia and Will have been together since college at MIT. For extra money, he agreed to be part of an experiment along with a few others. It wasn't really painful, just very uncomfortable. But after a while, they realize, it sort of scrambled their brain, or retired it. Time takes on a whole new meaning. For example, after one disappearance, Will reappears only to find they have a cat. He remembers his whole life but forgets they've had the same cat for 6 years! He can no longer take a plane because wherever he is when he disappears, that's how he shows back up. It would be terrible to show up in the sky without a plane around you. The disappearances are getting worse and longer so him and some others from the study meet with the professor that conducted them. Together they try to figure out how to stop it all. But what can they do when they are always traveling to the past? And after tragedy strikes, how are they to fix that? I really liked the ending. I hope the author writes more about the other characters in the group to see how things ended for them, although one individual we know it wasn't good.

If you are like listening to audiobooks then you will love this narrator. She was amazing and can do both male and female voices wonderfully.
