Summary

Richard Morgan has always been one of our most successful SF authors, with his fast-moving and brutal storylines, blistering plots and a powerful social conscience behind his work.

And now he's back, with his first SF novel for eight years...and it promises to be a publication to remember.

An ex-corporate enforcer, Hakan Veil, is forced to bodyguard Madison Madekwe, part of a colonial audit team investigating a disappeared lottery winner on Mars. But when Madekwe is abducted and Hakan nearly killed, the investigation takes him farther and deeper than he had ever expected. And soon Hakan discovers the heavy price he may have to pay to learn the truth.

Awesome rendition of a superb book

Loved this book when it came out in print. The rendition by Colin Mace is absolutely spot on. With Vail voiced as a character from lock stock snd two smoking barrels the story comes to life and is just fantastic. Great rendition that does the book justice 5*

Great read

It was a great read and keeped me hooked untill the end. There was too much swearing and the sex scenes were over graphic without being erotic.

Richards on form...

A beautifully performed hard boiled stew of Hammet and Alastair Reynolds. What can you do?

Pretty good

I enjoyed the story, nicely intricate with some signature ultra violence from the author. Generally liked the narration too, although the pronunciation of some of the specific Martian terminology struck me as a little odd.

Good but not great

I enjoyed the overarching story here but struggled a bit remembering who all the different characters where.

Stonking

Excellent book, stonking performance. Some very accomplished characters and damn impressive how dumb luck and betrayal upon betrayal stack up.

Far more interesting and readable than Iain M. Banks.

His best so far

I have listened to the Kovacs trilogy and read one and a half books of the Land fit for Heroes trilogy. My verdict: this is the best, beating the best of the Kovacs trilogy (which has good and bad parts), Intelligent, thought provoking, exciting exotic and great fun. One of very few in my 250 audible library that I give a 5-5-5 rating.

Similar to his carbon series but not quite,

Close but felt it needed a tighter edit.... Only do many times you can hear overider before your eyes start rolling, worth a listen anyway

Another cracking Richard K Morgan tale.

Hold on to your hats, face paced, plot twist after twist with Morgans amazing descriptive style and depiction of a future that seems all to relevant and real.
