Summary
It has been generations since the Northlands have seen a hero worthy of the title. Many have made the claim, but few have lived to defend it. Timid, weak, and bullied, Wulfric is as unlikely a candidate as there could be.
A chance encounter with an ancient and mysterious object awakens a latent gift, and Wulfric's life changes course. Against a backdrop of war, tragedy, and an enemy whose hatred for him knows no bounds, Wulfric will be forged from a young boy into the Wolf of the North. This is his tale.

Great world building.
An enjoyable yarn, with good world building. I am looking forwards to seeing more of the world in the following books.
Narration felt sped up though, so played at 80% speed for a more relaxed telling.

Gripping
Good narration, edge of the seat story, on par with Bernard Cornwall. Impatient for more.

Fantasy at its best!
After reading Society of the Sword, I had to try this too! I hadn’t realised it was set in the same world, but was very pleased to find it is!
Literally couldn’t put this down and immediately started book 2.
And Simon, well, what can I say!? It’s so easy to understand how the storytellers of old made a living wandering from town to town telling their stories listening to someone of Simon’s calibre! Love it!
