Summary

The Unreal and the Real is a major event not to be missed. In this two-volume selection of Ursula K. Le Guin's best short stories--as selected by the National Book Award winning author herself--the reader will be delighted, provoked, amused, and faced with the sharp, satirical voice of one of the best short story writers of the present day. Where on Earth explores Le Guin's earthbound stories which range around the world, from small town Oregon to middle Europe in the middle of revolution to summer camp.

Did not get on with narator accent/dialect tone

Would you try another book written by Ursula K. Le Guin or narrated by Tandy Cronyn?

I enjoy many of UKLG novels
Did not enjoy Tandy Cronyn

What was most disappointing about Ursula K. Le Guin’s story?

It was dull. Like a day to day journal of a dull life

How did the narrator detract from the book?

monotonous and unfamiliar American accent

Did The Unreal and the Real inspire you to do anything?

*** stop using audible (!) not really

Any additional comments?

I will look for her other works but be wary of the narrator

Decent collection of stories.

This collection is of high quality, as I have come to expect from Le Guin. I would say I preferred the second volume over this one in general, although that was expected as I am a fan of science fiction.

Some of my favourite stories from this volume were 'A Week in the Country', 'The Diary of a Rose', 'The Direction of the Road', 'Ether, OR'.

I see another review criticising the narrator, I must say I had no problem with her and felt she did a good job at differentiating character voices.

Audible does really need to sort out the chapters on this thing though, I don't know why they get so messed up on collections. The first few stories are each one chapter, but after that it gets kind of random, some stories go over multiple chapters and breaks between stories happen mid chapter. It would also be useful to have the chapters named.
