Publisher's Summary

Austin Zane leaves behind his CEO position with RB Corp to play Dave, a half-dwarf in the virtual reality game Emerilia, trying to escape his life.

What Dave doesn't know is that Earth as he knows it is really a virtual reality simulation and Emerilia is a world imbued with futuristic technologies to mimic early MMORPGs.

He just wanted peace and quiet, to build a house, do some fishing, to take some time to find himself once again. What he found out instead was a cause, he found out the biggest lie of his life. He found out the truth about Emerilia and the lies of Earth.

What's the best way to control slaves? Make them think that they're free.

"So long, but so worth it!"

This series has been on my list for some time, but my actual reading time is so limited. When it came to audio I was super happy.

Michael is a complete wiz at weaving stories in and around characters that have amazing depth and motivation.

What starts off pretty slow build till you actually can't stop listening... there's good back story woven in, crafting (a must for anyone who loves litrpg) and intense action.

The 18 hours totally whizzed past me, and I wanted more. I know this series is a huge one, and I seriously hope that Tristan keeps with it because he was a great choice as far as voice and tone go. I'd not listened to Tristan before, but the tone and voices he had for each character, especially Dave were great. The sarcastic and then funny side to him just had me laughing while driving. Some parts I literally was on the edge of my seat. A total joy to the ears, and it made the book go so much quicker. I believe Michael and Tristan nailed this one, and I'm so excited for more.

    Now for some deeper thoughts.

As I said the plot itself was slow to get going, I do admit that there were some word choices and lengthy sentences that even made me think twice about the meaning, but it really didn't detract from the story.

Dave is a very interesting character, from a big company to the game he wants to play it's totally opposite to his usual life and it's relaxing and interesting. The game mechanics aren't hard to follow and they develop nicely along the way, of course, there are some huge things for Dave to learn and to develop but he does so at a good pace. It's not over the top for me even though he does develop some interesting items and skills.

Overall this is good start to a series of over 7 books and I do believe he has more on the go! the man is insane.... can't wait for the next one on audio :)

"For everyone that like MMORPGS or RPGS / EVERYONE"
If you could sum up The Trapped Mind Project in three words, what would they be?

Some people say that this book doesn't have much action, but that not really true. there's enough action and romance as well, but that thing that matters the most for us MMORPGS and RPGS lovers and almost all people, is the way our main character grows stronger the way he levels up not just in levels but understanding and strengths. great book MUST READ and or LISTEN.

    "loved it!!!"

I rarely write reviews but this book had me locked in for the ride. got so good I ordered the others on my kindle. can't wait for it to be published on audible...the only down side is because so much happens in this world some of the books don't move character progression as far as I would like. otherwise stunning book series.

"best litrpg I have heard so far."

I was sceptical because I hadn't heard of the author or narrator. I was blown away by both. if you are hesitant I can definitely recommend dropping a credit for this one it has a permanent home in my library.

I was not given this book for free nor was I paid or asked to submit this or any other review.

    "You won't put it down!"

Fantastic addition to the genre and went far beyond my expectations!
I put off getting this for a little bit and I wish I hadn't.
The narration is good and diverse and the story is engaging and fun.
There is some romance and a ton of character development.

I am really excited when the rest of this series gets narrated.

    "Skip This"

I usually don't write Audible reviews, but I am just completely mind boggled how this has such high reviews. Finding good LitRPG can be tough, since much of it is either translated or self-published and poorly edited. But given the interesting premise in the summary and high reviews, I figured I'd give this one a shot.

    Bad move.

This book could be used to teach a writing class exactly what not to do for "show, don't tell." Nearly all of the world building, plot, and character motivations are presented in large info dumps, usually by way of awkward dialogue or inner monologue. To make it worse, the author frequently contradicts his own world building and most of it is devoid of any logic. Couple the info dumps with unnecessarily long and frequent stat recitations, and it's unbearable. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind hearing character or item stats in LitRPG so long as those mechanics also play into part of the story. But in the case, the rules don't really apply to our MC, so they really serve no purpose.

The main character is your typical overpowered, super "special" Gary Stue for reasons that are totally unapparent to the reader (except for the fact that the story keeps beating you over the head to tell you how special and interesting his). There isn't a single well developed character to be found anywhere.

Dialogue is awkward and stilted and continually presented as just "he said," "I said," "he asked," lI answer

    "Next book?"

I really loved this book and cannot wait for the next book to come out. I have been looking for an RPG book that was actually good and didn't have a bad plot. Listening to the stats being listed was very tiresome though and should probably be shortened or be read out in a different manner.
