Publisher's Summary

Kaerion Whitehart was once a mighty paladin, but sins of the past have cast him far from the light. Together with an elf mercenary, he now survives by the might of his sword alone.

In exchange for a hefty purse, the two friends agree to accompany a band of patriots into a tomb haunted by fear and legend. They soon find the mission growing beyond their control. As warring factions vie for the ultimate prize of a long-dead wizard, Kaerion finds himself caught between death and redemption.

The Tomb of Horrors is the latest title in the Greyhawk Classics series, a set of novels that revisits the most popular adventures of the original Dungeons & Dragons game.

"I’ve not read much fantasy fiction"
    Any additional comments?

Not being acquainted with fantasy fiction, other than J. R. R. Tolkien’s masterful works Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, I wouldn't know where to start. So picking something set in the World of Greyhawk that’s based on one of the greatest Dungeons & Dragons modules of all time seemed a good place to start.

I thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook. My only criticism is it took a little long to establish the plot, taking away from time in the tomb, and it seemed to end abruptly. Although, if you think about it, that’s not much different from typical D&D campaign.

"Potential for Adventure But a Tedious Buildup"

The narration is top notch yet the lugubrious buildup to the actual adventure invites tedium and hampers the story so much that listening becomes a chore.

    "The best of the series"

Of all the Greyhawk books, this was by far the best written. The characters were engaging and the story flowed well. The author did a superb job in retelling the module in novel form.

    "surprisingly entertaining"

I was just looking for some audio fodder to pass the time at the gym, and during commutes. What I got instead was a compelling story artfully read.

"Awesome reading of a fantastic fantasy novel."

Worth re-"reading" again and again. I love Kaerion's journey to self revelation. Bernard Setero Clark does a wonderful job of giving life to the voices commensurate with the character's ethos and personality.

"Warning Contains Spoilers of Cliched Plot Elements"

I understand that the purpose of this whole series was to create novels around classic dungeon-crawl adventure modules, and that they have to work with some of the boring, predictable elements that were included in those modules, but this book was garbage, and not because of the original Tomb Of Horrors.

The fallen paladin literally cries and whines through the entire book, displaying not a single redeeming characteristic, occupying about 8 of the 12 hours of listening time with descriptions of what a lousy piece of crap he is, and then, the author having murdered everyone else off just has the hand of god step in, and make everything better. Now here, Have your magical super-sword back, and one-shot the remaining bad guys, we've got to wrap this up in about six minutes.

I've read better fan-fiction. written in sharpie. On truck stop men's room walls.
