Summary

First came the days of the plague. Then came the dreams. Dark dreams that warned of the coming of the dark man. The apostate of death, his worn-down boot heels tramping the night roads. The warlord of the charnel house and Prince of Evil. His time is at hand. His empire grows in the west and the Apocalypse looms.

For hundreds of thousands of fans who read The Stand in its original version and wanted more, this new edition is Stephen King's gift. And those who are listening to The Stand for the first time will discover a triumphant and eerily plausible work of the imagination that takes on the issues that will determine our survival.

King addictive

Some books start well then fade away. Others may get put down before the opportunity to hear the climax. Some hold your attention throughout. This is one of those books. My family didn't know I existed throughout the time I spent listening to this book. A narrator can sometimes spoil the experience - not in this case. The voice suited the story.

I recommend this book to listeners who want to escape into a world they know to be fiction but believe could be scarily close to the truth ! Enjoy

The Ultimate Story of Good versus Evil

In my opinion this is Kings very best novel.

An epic thought provoking story of what could happen if...........

This is an immense work of art, full of characters that you will in turn, like, love, hate and fear.
If you haven't read or listened to The Stand before, then you are in for a treat.

If you have already read the book and are considering the audio version, then in my view it loses very little if anything in the narrated form. It is still the same wonderful journey for Larry, Stu and the rest of the gang.

After 47 hours of listening I can't wait until the edges of my memory begin to blur so that I can listen to or read the book again.

King's Masterpiece

Apocalypse writing at its best. The conflict between good and evil personified. It begins with a scourge on mankind, with the coming of the flu. The survivors are then called by the forces of good and evil, each according to their true nature. The book focuses on the eternal struggle of good versus bad and builds towards the greatest sacrifice of all to save mankind. Highly recommended.

Outstanding

Like many other reviewers, THE STAND is a "go to" book for me, one that I re-read regularly. I find new things in it each time. It's a compelling post-apocalyptic account, and the characters all feel like old friends (or adversaries, in some cases).

I was a little anxious that the narration might let the book down (which seems to be the problem with so many audiobooks). However, Grover Gardner was superb - absolutely perfect for this book. His voice changed so subtly for each character. I loved every moment of the 47 hours and when it was over I was tempted to go back and start all over again. I think this will now be my "go to" audiobook!

a bit slow

A bit slow, more like a long droning explanation. not what I wanted when looking for an infection ending the world.

I really enjoyed this

I saw the mini series a long time ago but didn't fancy reading the book. It was really long but very enjoyable and I just kept listening and listening. I enjoyed the personification of good and evil.

King's Finest

I've read and re-read this book several times over the years - now I decided to get it as an audio book.

The depth and details that King provides is spectacular – you really get to immerse yourself in the story – you are there . . . trailing your way across the post-flu US, trying to survive in a world where even the smallest infection might kill you – if the Walking Dude’s people don’t get you first . . .
