Publisher's Summary

Ex-marine Shane Ryan is a ghost hunter whose troubled past haunts him almost as much as the ghosts he encounters in the line of duty. He's the best. And his reward for excellence? The punishment of being in high demand for jobs to eradicate the worst kind of ghosts - the kind that kill.

His latest assignment is an idyllic island setting with sunny skies, crystal blue ocean and a venerable old lighthouse that makes the scenery picture perfect...except for the malevolent, murderous ghosts marring the living portrait. If Amy, the owner, wasn't Marie Lafontaine's cousin, Shane would have steered clear of Squirrel Island and its diabolical dead. But Detective Lafontaine is his do-or-die friend. He'd do anything for her. Even face Dorothy, the undead Evilena who kills anyone invading her unholy domain. Add two shipwrecked couples to the mix and Shane has more trouble than he wants to handle.

Shane's mission is clear: rid the island of Dorothy and her band of undead while keeping his new charges alive. But how could he know that staying alive meant facing the worst evil ever imagined?

    "Disapointing read"
Is there anything you would change about this book?

Far too many ghosts and killings to keep me fully focused on the story line. After reading the first in the series I was expecting a similar very good read. Unfortunately this story left me feeling let down by this very good author.

What was most disappointing about Ron Ripley’s story?

Hard to follow the storyline as too many characters are in it. Got lost halfway through and seem to have missed some key points. I thought that I read that the main character had killed her children but then a great granddaughter appeared in the story. Maybe somebody could explain how that came about and where from.

What does Thom Bowers bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

I thoroughly love listening to him and he makes the story come to life. I think that I would have given up with this book halfway through if I had been reading it.

If this book were a film would you go see it?

    No

    Any additional comments?

Hopefully the next in the series will keep me wanting more.

    "Terrifying!!"

So Shane's back but this time he is dealing with something even worse!! He is asked to help with a haunted lighthouse, which seems easy enough, but it's anything but. This island is riddled with the dead. What could possibly happen to Shane on a remote island filled with the dead?? ;) Well, read it to see!!!!

Here's me thinking that Berkley Street was scary, well welcome to The Lighthouse!! A place that is so captivating, you won't want to leave, well Dorothy doesn't give you much choice!! If you enter her domain, you are there to stay. When Shane gets there, he realises the scope of the problem, but he knows that he will only be there a day or two and some one will check on him, when no one does though, and two couples wind up washed ashore, Shane sees that there is more going on than meets the eye. With people being killed, can Shane figure things out before it's too late!!

Shane is just as awesome as the first book! He visits the Lighthouse as a favour to Detective Lafontaine, otherwise he would have stayed away!! He really grows as a character in this book, he is brave, selfless and does what he needs to in order to survive and help others.

In all, this was terrifying!! Dorothy was truly evil!! Finding out what she was like when she was alive was heartbreaking, but pales in comparison to what she does when she is dead! Lighthouses can be creepy places at the best of times, but add in lots of ghosts, and you have a chilling tale that will leave you wanting to sleep with the lights on.

Thom Bowers really knows how to bring a terrifying tale to life. He ramps up the tension when needed and did a great job with the atmosphere. Really enjoyed his narration and need to check out more from him.

*I received a free copy of this but voluntarily reviewed it. This in no way affected nor influenced my thoughts.*

"Let's see .... SCARY, FRIGHTFUL, GRUESOME, GHASTLY"
Would you listen to The Lighthouse again? Why?

No, I don't think I want to go back to Squirrel Island... been there, done that, thanks to the author of this mesmerizing, but horrifying tale.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Lighthouse?

Finding out who the blonde is ....

Which character – as performed by Thom Bowers – was your favorite?

    Sean, of course!

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Be prepared to watch through your fingers ....

    Any additional comments?

I've read a lot of "horror" books, but this series is the best I've read. I'm starting on Book 3 right away! The narrator has a velvety voice that makes listening for hours a real pleasure.

    "Another great book!"

I am loving this series! More gore this time but still not overly done or for no reason. I hate when there's gore for the sake of gore. Shane is better than before and so is his predicament and the twist of one of the bad guys. Awesome story telling! The narrator seems better than last time too though it was the same guy. He had a good grasp of his accents this time. I enjoyed the bonus story at the end too. It didn't get much emotion or thought from Ewan (the Irish kid with the pipe) but it was a good story nonetheless.

    "Great addition to the series"

Another great story from this author, and a good addition to the series. I like the characters, and love that they are smart and try to find a way out of things instead of just waiting to be saved! Smart characters are so much easier to like and be interested in. Looking forward to the next book!

    "This was a ghostly night!!!"
What did you love best about The Lighthouse?

I loveShane and his ability to see the dead without freaking out. I'm kind of like him. I don't think it would terrify me either.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Lighthouse?

Probably the ending. It was closed up well but with room for another Shane.

Which character – as performed by Thom Bowers – was your favorite?

I have always, from Book one related to him. Who doesn't have ghosts in their room as a kid.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No, I was pretty enticed but no extremes.

    Any additional comments?

Well done story. Well narrorated story. Gets you a five star rating from me. Thanks for the free listen for an honest review.

    "Great Ghost Hunter"

I love Ron Ripley’s series of ghosts and characters. Shane is not your typical ex-marine but very down to earth and a ghost hunter. Shane is on deserted island with a lighthouse and many different ghosts, some mean and others likeable. Recommend you read the 1st book in the series Berkley Street then this one I cannot wait for 3rd book The Town of Griswold to be audiobook. I also recommend his Moving In series. These series are for anyone who enjoys horror/ghost stories. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook from Scare Street. THANK YOU!!!

The first Audiobook was really good, but this is too predictable. Author uses some of the same sentences which could have been taken from the first audiobook.ll

Not as exciting as book one. But close. Some of the conversations (between the living) not believable.

    "Great creepy story!!"
Would you try another book from Ron Ripley and/or Thom Bowers?

ABSOLUTELY!! And I look forward to it.

What did you like best about this story?

The interaction with the ghosts is great. The descriptions are so good and in my opinion this book series could make a great horror film!

    Which scene was your favorite?

Without spoiling too much, probably the last chapter when he finally does what he sets out to do with the help of his 'new friends' who were more than willing to help. I also love that he & Court will see each other again.

Do you think The Lighthouse needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

I don't think this particular story needs a follow-up book since the ending is an ending. But I do look forward to book 3, which is sure to be a whole new, creepy adventure!

    Any additional comments?

I wish this series would continue - I'm having such a great time with these books, great characters and creepy scenes!! Would LOVE to see these on the big screen!
