Publisher's Summary

Random House presents the audiobook edition of The Last Dog on Earth by Adrian J Walker, read by David John and Jonathan Aris.

Every dog has its day....

And for Lineker, a happy-go-lucky mongrel from Peckham, the day the world ends is his: finally a chance to prove to his owner just how loyal he can be.

Reg, an agoraphobic writer with an obsession for 90s football, plans to wait out the impending doom in his second-floor flat, hiding himself away from the riots outside.

But when an abandoned orphan shows up in the stairwell of their building, Reg and Lineker must brave the outside in order to save not only the child, but themselves....

What the Critics Say

"Very few dystopian novels push through to the horrors explored here. Fewer still reach these heights of lyricism, humour and decency." (Daily Mail)

    "unexpected pleasure"

I loved this book. I didn't realise there were two narrators until I pulled up this book for review. I am a dog lover and tend to avoid dog based stories in case the dog gets the worst of it but he didn't really. The pace never lagged, the narration was brilliant. WARNING - does contain some bad language.

    "Second chance"

I wasn't a big fan of "The end of the world running club" but I am so glad I gave this author another chance. I loved it from start to finish. I loved the way it's split between the two main characters. What a great book.

    "Amazing "

An amazing book. Very pertinent to what is happening now within our own politics.
Everyone should listen or read this book and take the message from within the story.

    "Fascinating"

The best and most imaginative dog's eye view of the world I've read. Filthy mouthed hound, but the expression of a dog's feeling of purpose and experience of life that humans cannot appreciate was thought provoking.
The plot was a rattler with good character development, but as you can tell, the dog was by far the most well rounded character for me.

    "Ok"

I found both the main characters voices pretty annoying. But then I'm northern and sometimes that accent goes right through me. I did warm to them but it took a long time. the book shows a dystopian future essentially where UKIP or the bnp get into power and actually could be a good tool for getting racists to empathise with the trials of refugees.
interesting concept and writing front the point of view of a dog though not original was done quite well.

"This needs more than 5 stars. Not enough by far."
Would you consider the audio edition of The Last Dog on Earth to be better than the print version?

With the brilliant narration by Jonathan Aris & David John, this epic book came alive.

What did you like best about this story?

It's an incredible book, and Adrian J. Walkers ability to bring humour and horror together is brilliant.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    Easily could have done

    Any additional comments?

    Genius!! Terrifying.

    "Not for me!"

Unfortunately this is one book I just couldn't get into! I'm not at all prudish but the (to me) unnecessary amount of swearing put me off!! It's a dog...why would it swear so much!! I read the authors previous book and enjoyed it but just found this too much! A credit returned
