Summary

Inspired by myth, fairy tale, and folklore, number one New York Times best-selling author Leigh Bardugo has crafted a deliciously atmospheric collection of short stories filled with betrayals, revenge, sacrifice, and love.

Enter the Grishaverse.... Love speaks in flowers. Truth requires thorns.

Travel to a world of dark bargains struck by moonlight, of haunted towns and hungry woods, of talking beasts and gingerbread golems, where a young mermaid's voice can summon deadly storms and where a river might do a lovestruck boy's bidding but only for a terrible price.

Perfect for new listeners and dedicated fans, the tales in The Language of Thorns will transport you to lands both familiar and strange - to a fully realized world of dangerous magic that millions have visited through the novels of the Grishaverse.

Fun fairytales from the Grishaverse

I enjoyed this collection of short fables from Bardugo's amazingly well-crafted Grishaverse. They don't really add anything to the experience of reading Shadow and Bone or Six of Crows, but they were a fun way to pass the time on my commute.

Perfect stories for adults

Finally some remarkably narrated stories for adults too to enjoy.
Ms Bardugo is an exelent old fashioned writer and I loved all her previous Grisha books and this very talented narrator, Lauren Fortgang, brings to life these stories in a so enchanting and perfect narration.

Not for the faint of heart

Each of Bardugo's midnight tales was both thrilling and engaging while Fortgang's performance added enchantment and a haunting feel! Well worth the purchase and spot in your library!

another beautifully written book

I want to buy this book and bind it up and keep it safe, and read it to my children if and when I have them, because all of these stories are beautiful and terrible, and all of them convey a compassion and reality that is sorely lacking in stories on the whole. once, I heard someone describe Pan's Labyrinth as a "disobedient fairytale" and these short stories are in precisely the same vein.

Enjoyable Stories

I came across this audiobook on Instagram. I've been listening to it little by little during times when I travel and at night after the kiddos are in bed. If you love dark stories that sometimes have a twist, this is a good one to listen to.

Like a Sister Grimm

I loved the first story, but could barely finish the next two. It is very well written, but dark. These fairytales teach lessons in the old grim way but for this day and age. The overall moral seems to be: be careful who you trust because even the people you love and count on the most can be hiding a monster inside. These stories haunt me unpleasantly. I don't think I'll finish them.
If you are a fan of Grimm fairytales, where the witch is rolled down the hill in a barrel studded with nails or are cooked in their own ovens, you'll probably love these.
***Spoiler alert***
The thing is, the innocent are harmed dreadfully in these stories too. I guess that makes it more like real life, and is a lesson in itself. The happily ever after in the stories I read left the protagonist almost as battered and scarred as the antagonist.

Nice to have all the stories in one place.

I remember reading each of these short stories in digital format when they first came out. I really enjoyed being able to listen to them by an amazing narrator and now have them all in one place. Leigh bardugo has added so much to the Grisha world and I can't wait for 2019 and her Darkling book

blown away

I was genuinely surprised with each stories end. the author did a marvelous job of keeping you interested, guessing, and wanting more. each tale has a slightly eerie tone that keeps till the conclusion. the narrator was perfect for this book. seriously loved every second and know it will forever be a favorite.
