Summary

The magical Ellcrys tree is dying, loosening the spell that bars the Demons from enacting vengeance upon the land. Now Wil Ohmsford must guard the Elven girl Amberle on a perilous quest as she carries one of the Ellcrys' seeds to a mysterious place where it can be quickened into a powerful new force. But dark on their trail comes the Reaper, most fearsome of all Demons, aiming to the crush their mission at any cost.

Thus continues the enthralling Shannara epic, a spellbinding tale of adventure, magic, and myth.

Loved it!

I simply couldn't get enough of this book. Having read it several times in the past I wondered whether the audio version could keep me sufficiently engaged but it surpassed my expectations.

What the?!

I'm disappointed to see that this book isn't available in an unabridged version after listening to the unabridged First King of Shannara and unabridged Sword of Shannara. Especially when it picks back up after this book with an unabridged Wishsong of Shannara. Seems like somebody dropped the ball on this one.

Get the unabridged version...

Not a bad reading, but much is lost in the telling with this abridgement of the story. Get the unabridged version!

THIS IS THE ABRIDGED VERSION

Would you try another book from Terry Brooks and/or Charles Keating?

Yes

Would you recommend The Elfstones of Shannara to your friends? Why or why not?

Yes - the story itself is great, just make sure you get the unabridged version especially if you are trying to read it in conjunction with utilizing the audiobook.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Elfstones of Shannara?

None of them - I wanted to read the whole book and downloaded the abridged version by mistake.

Great so far!

I read this book several decades ago when I was in high school. Loved it. I decided to give this audible book thing a try and I was not disappointed. Listened to an hour last night and really enjoyed it.

Charles Keating does a great job. His voice is clear and he uses the right tone for this story. I listened to an excerpt from the unabridged version read by Scott Brick and I did not like the way Brick read it.

Listening to this story brought back a lot of good memories. I'm glad I made this purchase.

Good Listening, again.

I know most are upset this is the unabridged version. But I have read the books in the past and rather enjoy the "tune-up" so to speak. More than anything, and I think I said this on the last review for Sword of Shannara, I love Charles Keating reading to me. He makes it all worth it! I will buy book 3 for sure.

Terry brooks is an amazing writer I love his whole series and this one is great just like everything else that he writes. I truly recomend this and all of Terry Brooks books to readers who like fantasy novels, he is one of the best.
