Summary

A snowstorm, a highway, a lonely hotel....

Devastated by the deaths of her parents and disillusioned with life, Caroline Daynes is in America trying to connect with their memory. Travelling to her mother's hometown of Williamsfield in Pennsylvania, she is caught in a snowstorm and forced to stop at The Egress hotel - somewhere she'd planned to visit as her parents honeymooned there.

From the moment she sets foot inside the lobby and meets the surly receptionist, she realizes this is a hotel like no other. Charming and unique, it seems lost in time with a whole cast of compelling characters sheltering behind closed doors.

As the storm deepens, so does the mystery of The Egress. Who are these people she's stranded with, what secrets do they hide? And, in a situation that's becoming increasingly nightmarish, is it possible to find solace?

Brilliant

Shani is a new author to me but not anymore she holds me spell bound . She captures all that is haunting and I believe it to be real . I never want the book to end but the final chapters put together the whole story . Highly recommend you must read listen to this book but probably not in the dead of night on your own,,,,,,,,,

Intriguing

As always Shani has told an intriguing and interesting tale.
Caroline is visiting America and unluckily she ends up in a bad snow storm. She had wanted to visit the hotel but now ends up having to stay there.
The characters she meets make this tale so addictive. I had to listen to it as quickly as I could.
I had already read the book, listening to it did not spoil anything. The book and the audio book though the same story are so good I would honestly recommend both.
The narrator kept the flow so well. Changing between characters so well from the likeable to the menacing.
The whole package is haunting, inviting and so well described its vivid as you listen to it.

Wrong actor for the role.

Not her best book. this dragged in places, ending felt like a rushed compromise. made worse by the poor reading of the actress in the role. Bad enunciation and accents. Her voice doesnt match the part..she would be better reading teen fiction in my opinion.

omg no

story was great however the narrator was shockingly bad that I had to force myself to finish listening to the story. Unlike other stories this is definitely one I won't relisten too which is a shame

The Accents!

The narrator was awful. If most of the characters are American then maybe someone who could do American accents would have been better!! The voice for the British main character was sickly sweet and very cringey. The story itself wasnt bad, just ruined by the voices! Did I mention the narration was bad?!
