Summary
Five noble war heroes of Vagandrak get drunk one night and sign a contract - to journey to the Karamakkos in search of the Five Havens where, it is written, there lies untold abandoned wealth and, more importantly, the three Dragon Heads, legendary jewels claimed to give unspeakable power and everlasting life to those who wield them.

No this is my first book of his. I'm afraid for me he's not Brandon Sanderson

This is not a subtle or complex book. If it hadn’t been for the huge amount of expletives I would have said it was a children’s book in places. The writing is ok, but it felt like the author was trying to be very English in his use of language as if he was speaking to a group of foreigners . However, overall with the narrator and story I did enjoy this book.

Raw and visceral
Always the heroes you know you would want to be. Remic’s grasp of drama, real characters with humour and smack in the face dialogues drive a fast paced adventure.

Disappointing
I usually enjoy a story with the promise of a good plot and interesting, heroic characters. I have read dozens of enthralling epic fantasy books and was looking for a new series. Unfortunately, although Andy Remic clearly followed the recipe for this genre, I found the characters were predictable caricatures and by the time I reached the torture scenes the progress of the “plot” was confirmed as nonsensical and just didn’t flow for me. I truly lost any interest in caring about the characters or what would happen to them: they were neither complex nor believable.
Maybe it was a combination of the poor world building and the narrator’s interpretation of voices for the characters and the cardboard cutouts he tried to bring to life but, sadly, I found the overall experience disappointing.
If you like your baddies to be heartlessly cruel and evil, and your goodies to be saccharinely loyal and have love for each other - oh, and include some puerile descriptive sex scenes (if I heard quim one more time I thought I’d scream) - then this is the book for you.
