Summary

Danni Morgan thought she knew fear, but she is about to find out what it is to be truly afraid.

Years ago, a young girl ran away from her childhood home and vowed never to go back. It was a place of fear, pain, and misery at the hands of an abusive father.

But now, her father is dead, and she is forced to break that vow and return home - to lay his body to rest and face up to the ghosts of her past.

However, Danni is about to learn that some ghosts are more real than others.

Something beyond her understanding waits for her there, lurking in the shadows. An evil that intends to kill her family and claim her very soul.

Experience supernatural horror in the vein of The Conjuring, Insidious, and the legendary Ghostwatch. The Demonic will get under your skin, send chills down your spine, and have you sleeping with the lights on!

A wonderful ghost story

Listened to this in my car on my daily commute, and I this one deginitely helped to keep me awake!

The story is well written and narrated, as I have come to expect from the excellent pairing of the writer and narrator (having previously listened to the just as excellent Horror In The Woods).

I would highly recommend this to any fan of the supernatural genre, as it is a great example of a classic ghost story.

An ok listen

Im trying these books as I've finished all from my favourite author.
It was a good listen,I've heard better but one thing i found surprising is the amount of swearing in the book....I've just never listened to other books with swearing in & although it was fitting i guess within the story line it started to sound odd!The narrative was ok,sometimes takes a while to get used to a new voice...im going to give book 2 a go....see how i get on!

A Family Ripped Apart

A very creepy and enjoyable horror story. When Danni inherits her old family home, following the death of her despised father, her own family is placed in mortal danger from the properties gruesome past. The plot nicely unfolds, through excellent narration, by ramping up the horror to a final shattering showdown.
As a great bonus there are two spooky and enjoyable short stories included at the end.

The Demonic 👎🏾

I really didn’t think much of the story or the narration it just got boring very quickly but that’s my opinion you should decide if it’s your kind of thing Definitely a big thumbs down 👎🏾 from me sadly

A literary James Wan movie

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I'd recommend this to anyone looking for a classic haunting/ghost story. If you're looking for some classic literary horror fun, you could do a lot worse than The Demonic.

What did you like best about this story?

Mountford's writing is very cinematic. If you close your eyes whilst listening, you'll imagine you're in a James Wan movie.

Have you listened to any of Hannibal Hills’s other performances? How does this one compare?

I have not, but this one was pretty good.

Just awful

Amateurish, cliched, over-baked writing. Unimaginative characters with over the top, clunky dialogue. Zero chills. Predictable story line and devices (plot very close to other similar titles currently available). And the narration performance is just awful. The narrator is cursed with monotonous rhythym through the whole book and delivers dialogue with very little character or inspiration. Spare yourself.
