Summary

No war can last forever. Now, in the long and punishing battle between the defiant champions of the New Jedi Order and the juggernaut that is the Galactic Alliance, the endgame is finally at hand.

The rebel cause is losing ground under the twin blows of Admiral Gilad Pellaeon's assassination and the death of Mara Jade Skywalker. At the same time, the Galactic Alliance, with the extraordinary power and dark brilliance of newly ascendant Sith Lord Darth Caedus at its helm, may be unstoppable.

Tormented and torn between the call of duty and the thirst for vengeance, Luke has searched the Force and beheld an unspeakable vision of the galaxy enslaved under tyranny more monstrous than even Palpatine's. Now it seems that the last, best hope lies in mobilizing the scattered Jedi for one decisive search-and-destroy mission. The objective: eliminate Darth Caedus.

It's a plan that will be as difficult and dangerous to execute as it is daring. For Caedus is a scion of both the Skywalker and Solo bloodlines whose command of the Force surpasses even that of his grandfather, Darth Vader. There is only one who is bound by destiny to stand against him in what will surely be a duel to the death, only one with an outside chance of bringing down the dark lord who was once Jacen Solo

The furious final moments between power and peace are here, and whoever confronts Darth Caedus will decide the outcome - and the fate of those left standing.

Great End To A Fantastic Series!!

Such a great ending to such an amazing series!! Seeing the culmination of Jacen Solo's fall to the Dark Side and having to pay for all the atrocities he caused!! Amazing Writing, I enjoyed reading the book years ago, but enjoyed it even more so on Audible!!

Truly Entertaining!

Very well done for a Star Wars audiobook. Even though it is abridged, the 6 hour run-time leaves enough material to make this audiobook entertaining. That said, you can still notice gaps where, I assume, material was cut out for the abridgement. This can be annoying after a while. I won't beat around the bush, I loathe any abridgement and I would encourage people to complain to the publisher so that they will begin releasing unabridged versions of these books. Other than that, this book was excellent. Marc Thompson is one of the most talented narrators that I have heard. It is a pleasure to listen to him. The different character voices that he assumes throughout the book are executed flawlessly and I had to keep reminding myself that it was the same person speaking. The writing, sound production, and music were all top notch. I would give this 5 stars if not for the abridgement.

One last thing, stay away from any of the star wars audiobooks that are less than 6 hours in length. They are so butchered by the abridgements, that they are not worth your time or money. Quite a few of these are narrated by Anthony Heald and he is just plain awful. I found this out the hard way. Just remember, Anthony Heald = extremely poor narration. Jonathan Davis = Extremely good narration. Marc Thompson = Outstanding narration.

Good for Abridged

This is an abridged version so quite a bit of the book is left out. One thing missing are Jacen's jokes at the beginning of each chapter. There is also alot of description missing. But . . . you can follow the story and you do get the main part of what the authors of this series were trying to get across. It really isn't bad for abridged. I wish audible would do unabridged of these.

Worth waiting for

My son has been waiting for this since he finished listening to Book 8. He loved it and could not wait to get back into the car to hear more, he was actually hoping for red lights to make the drives to school longer. It was a good end to the story and we are looking forward to future stories with the characters we have watched grow over the years.

Good but not great

Too bad this series was abridged. Narration was fantastic on the other hand; as always.

A Sub-Par End to a Promising Arc

The final chapter in the Legacy of the Force saga is thrilling, exciting, and altogether soulless.

Having taken on the mantle of Darth Caedus, Jacen Solo has usurped control of the Galactic Alliance, and has become enemy number one of his family and friends in the Jedi Order. It's up to his sister to stop him... and, directly contradicting her decision to try everything she can to redeem him in the previous book, she has now decided murder is the only course of action open to her.

Beginning with awkwardly distant segues from plot lines opened in the previous books, Invincible manages to end an entertaining series with a bittersweet finale that seems to yield nothing more than action for action's sake, and forgets the moral center of Star Wars lore. In fact [MAJOR SPOILERS for the book's ending to follow], in the brief and underwhelming climax when Jedi Knight Jaina Solo does finally end her fraternal conflict with a killing stroke, it's against a defenseless and broken man who had just begged her for help to save innocent people. Coupled with clumsy transitions from important plot lines in the previous book, this maneuver reeks of a need for closure, more than a planned, fluid plot line.

Due mostly to Troy Denning's forced and questionable wrap-ups that seem to indicate nothing more than "tying up loose ends," Invincible is one of the weakest books in the Legacy of the Force series, and sadly ends a thrilling and chilling chapter in the Star Wars saga with predictable mayhem, but no heart.
