Someone's got to stop the supernatural bloodlust - plus, hunting's a hell of a lot more exciting than her computer science classes.
Successful Seattle baker Alena Budrene doesn't want to die. Though he saves her life, it looks nothing like the life she once knew - and neither does she. Alena is a new breed of "Supe" no one has ever seen before. Even the supernatural police don't know what she is. Now exiled to the northern side of the Wall, is thrust into a dark and magical new world.

Up until now, I've done everything wrong. Deserted, and feeling more alone than ever, I need to lead my people in this new barbaric world. I've got to defend them against the power-hungry senator and shield them from even themselves. All this while my heart is being ripped to shreds.
Sometimes, redemption is found in your darkest moments.
Alright ladies, I am a guy age 31 and am definitely not an Alpha male and not even in the running for a Beta position, but OMG what the ^$$& %^#%$@. I am going to put this comment in all 4 books review section trying not to be too spoilery and dare any of you to prove me wrong or tell me off, so here goes.
I started this series because I liked Karma and Jinxed by this author and even listened to the first three books in this series hoping it would get better but it did not. I don't understand how women can even enjoy this. Don't get me wrong in high school I could never seem to find a female lead character appealing but with age I found the Jane Yellowrock series and the Mercy Thompson series wonderful reads. I even as a guilty pleasure listen to some of Molly Harpers stuff which can veer very close to romance novel territory. The reason I can't enjoy these books is because of that colossal d***head that is Cormac, how in the world is this guy appealing. I think in the second or third book Jo asks if he was even born A.D. and he says yes but one of his guys whispers under his breath "not by much", so how can a guy nearly two thousand years old not have better dating tactics than...(I know Jo is damaged and needs persuading)...by browbeating, bullying, and blackmail to get the girl is not cool. How can this be termed a healthy relationship.
I enjoy the Dresden Files books because even though it may not work in the long term and have bad repercussions but ever once in a while when not dancing around other characters with wits he can go "HULK angry, HULK smash." that's what I needed Jo to do at least once in the relationship. Jo can't even outwit Cormac, Jane Yellowrock or Mercy Thompson would have run rings around him. Cormac steals her f***ing trailer ladies and it is never seem again. Even when bullying and blackmail don't work all he has to do is get Jo a little steamed up and she will forgive anything he wants.
In this book Cormac abandons her (I suppose with good intentions) but when he comes back NO repercussions, no one question his bad behavior to her. He blackmails her to even stay in the apartment. So Ladies why is Cormac appealing at all??
Jo could use a friend on her side, her first best friend finally learns the truth and is instantly taken away. Jo get friendly with the Doc, who is never seen again (maybe later in book 4 she comes back but I could not get that far). Even Jo's sort of friends welcome Cormac back with open arms and seem to say "Ok Jo Cormac is back stop this little hissy fit and get back with your man."
I was screaming at my mp3 player KILL HIM, KILL HIM or at least punch him in the balls a couple of time every time he wormed or bullied or persuaded her after a fight to show there are consequences.
So there is my rant please feel free to ignore or correct me.
Sincerely Aaron

There is a lot of drama in this book, Jo and Cormac just can not be happy for more than a minute. Seriously, if it isn't her angst, it is his.
Once again everything is from her POV, so we have no idea what the big lug is thinking. It really limits the reader and leaves you to wonder, until Jo is told what is happening.
I really wanted to love this book, but there was more drag in the story than I generally like. We could have skipped much of the moping and posturing, it has all been done before. Jumping to the last third of the book brings the whole thing to a head. The battle could have been longer and more in depth. I was fine with the final resolution.
There is a bit of smexy, but not much. Just enough detail to make it NC-17 but not as far as an erotic read. The romance has build to this point, I would have liked a more hot bedroom action!! Cormac has definite Dom tendencies!!
I listened to the audiobook narrated by Laurel Schroeder, who is great. I love all the sass she add to Jo and the gruffness of Cormac. Great pace that keeps the story moving and accentuates the action scenes. She is terrific and a real credit to the series. I loved the emotion she was able to infuse into the read. I will definitely look for more of her work!
Overall I enjoyed the series, I just wish there were more of the aftermath. Fill us in on all the supporting characters we have come to love.

Donna Augustine's Alchemy series is one of the best I've ever read. She used such imagination and her style brought the characters to life.
narration was great. storyline got a little lost. when you set 2 Alpha personalities you can't diminish one suddenly to beta. the storyline could be better if she kept the main characters the way they were as the original book.
Any additional comments?
