Publisher's Summary

From the iconic and best-selling author of The Mummy and The Vampire Chronicles, a mesmerizing, glamorous new tale of ancient feuds and modern passions.

Ramses the Great, former pharaoh of Egypt, is reawakened by the elixir of life in Edwardian England. Now immortal with his bride-to-be, he is swept up in a fierce and deadly battle of wills and psyches against the once-great Queen Cleopatra. Ramses has reawakened Cleopatra with the same perilous elixir whose unworldly force brings the dead back to life. But as these ancient rulers defy one another in their quest to understand the powers of the strange elixir, they are haunted by a mysterious presence even older and more powerful than they, a figure drawn forth from the mists of history who possesses spectacular magical potions and tonics eight millennia old. This is a figure who ruled over an ancient kingdom stretching from the once-fertile earth of the Sahara to the far corners of the world, a queen with a supreme knowledge of the deepest origins of the elixir of life. She may be the only one who can make known to Ramses and Cleopatra the key to their immortality - and the secrets of the miraculous, unknowable, endless expanse of the universe.

    "I am hungry for more......"

OMG, I love this story!!!! Thank you, Anne, and thank you, Christopher, for your masterful storytelling. It has been a long time coming.

I love the new layers and new characters in the story.

I did not like the narrator, however. she told the story beautifully BUT SHE YELLS!! Please, if she narrates the next book, please don't yell, it distracts from the story.

    "Not her best"

The narrator is too loud and dramatic. It takes away from the content of the book. I generally love Anne Rice, but this is not her best, probably because it is co-written. It is full of repetition and lacks depth. It won’t make me stop reading her books I think she’s brilliant but it was disappointing. I def will not seek out this narrator. Still I do not regret listening to it!

"Still trying to catch my breath!"

Fabulous story, of course. The narrator, Katherine Kellgren, made the story come alive. I felt as though in a classic horror movie, and my corset was laced too tight. Breathless and heart racing, lingering and longing for every word.

    Story
    "Mediocre sequel, *terrible* narration"
What would have made Ramses the Damned: The Passion of Cleopatra better?

The story could have been half as long.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

I would pick a different narrator and put it on the editorial chopping block to get rid of the chaff.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The narrator had just one setting: a whiny, stuck-up, aristocratic English woman. It d-r-a-g-s the story out into a torturous ordeal.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

I had been wanting a sequel to The Mummy for years. I'm glad it finally came around.

    Any additional comments?

. . . better to read a comprehensive review and breakdown of the whole story than endure this. I generally like Anne Rice's books very much, but this one was just a disappointment on so many levels.

"Story 5 stars - narrator 0 stars or less - horrible narration!!! "

This is a great story - but the narrator is awful - worst audible performance I have ever heard! The voice is so annoying emphasizing exaggeratedly and constantly switching from low volume to high - terrible! But the story is great - this book is good but don't buy with this narrator. Such a shame! Totally spoiled by narrator .

    Story
"Are you ready for the secret?"

An entertaining story, although I felt it slow and a little bit boring in comparison with other great stories written by the author.

I did not like the narration, she screamed most of the time. Sometimes, I wanted to quit listening to the audiobook.

    "STOP TALKING!"
Would you try another book from Anne Rice and Christopher Rice and/or Katherine Kellgren?

The narrator is so awful, such a sarcastic horrible tone of voice. STOP TALKING!

never ever will listen to anything with this one again.

How could the performance have been better?

    change the narrator,

    Any additional comments?

I'm returning this book. don't care how good the story is.

    "Narrator is overwhelming."

I really loved the story in this Anne Rice book, but the narrator reading the story was a bit insane. All of her male characters sounded like evil trolls, and she yells through moments of heightened drama in a way that grates on the nerves. This is one book I'll have to begin again... In print.
