Publisher's Summary

In 1968 the world experienced a brand-new kind of terror with the debut of George A. Romero's landmark film Night of the Living Dead. This was something new...and terrifying. Since then, zombies have invaded every aspect of popular culture.

But it all started on that dreadful night in a remote farmhouse.

Nights of the Living Dead returns to that night, to the outbreak, to where it all began. New York Times best-selling author Jonathan Maberry teams up with the godfather of the living dead himself, George A. Romero, to present a collection of all-new tales set during the 48 hours of that legendary outbreak.

Nights of the Living Dead includes stories by some of today's most important writers: Brian Keene, Carrie Ryan, Chuck Wendig, Craig Engler, David J. Schow, David Wellington, Isaac Marion, Jay Bonansinga, Joe R. Lansdale, Joe McKinney, John Russo, John Skipp, Keith RA DeCandido, Max Brallier, Mike Carey, Mira Grant, Neal and Brendan Shusterman, and Sandra and Ryan Brown, plus original stories by Romero and Maberry.

Narrators include: Ray Porter, Stefan Rudnicki, Jonathan Maberry, Kasey Lansdale, Kristoffer Tabori, Rex Linn, Gabrielle de Cuir, Adenrele Ojo, Richard Gilliland, and Nicholas Guy Smith.

    "Best book of 2017"

I normally hate story collections because it's always a 50/50 of if you get a good story or not. But this one was simply amazing.

"Excellent narration of pretty good stories."

Definitely worth the time for NOTLD fans.

As with most anthologies, it was a mixed bag.

Some of the stories seemed far too short (because you just wanted more!) And some far too long (because you just wondered where they were going).

Overall entertaining and easy to break into multiple short listens.

    Story
    "Just Wow!"

I honestly can't imagine any way that they could have improved upon this. Each individual story was well written as well as engaging, captivating and something I would have listened to itself if it had not been involved in this anthology.
Most of the narrators I was already familiar with and they all including the ones new to me did exemplary jobs with their individual stories.

Good Stories. Great performances. Think I even heard a version of Tell-Tale Heart in here.

    "Best collection yet"

Narration ranges from ok to great. I could listen to the gentleman who reads the Brian Keene story all day. Favorite story as well along with the one from the space station.

    Story
"-only for hardcores of the genre-"
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

No. Unless your really hardcore into the genre and want to hear Romeros introduction and thoughts about NOTLD (and its not even him narrating his words) then its not really that good.

For me, being hardcore into the genre it was worth it just for the introduction but the stories are not very good and overall its not that good except for collectors I suppose.

What was most disappointing about the authors’s story?

Well, I'm not big on anthologies anyhow- And this being a collection of short stories already hurts it for someone like me-

However, the amount of situations and stories that could have come out during the first 48 hours of the outbreak is very intriguing... Especially because this really is "official cannon" of the genre.

And yet I'm halfway through and theres only 1 story that really was any good and captures what I was expecting.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

The first narrator sounds like shes trying to do the whole thing in a fake and terrible southern accent- The other narrators (thus far- I'm halfway through) are all decent to good.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Yes- But for the same reason I'm going to see the next George Romero movie (which is the stupidest plot ive ever heard- Zombies racing cars for rich peoples pleasure)- For the same reason I will see of buy anything that george Romero is a part of, even though he hasnt made a decent zombie flick since 'day' and the recent ones have been some of the worst Ive seen in the genre....

Because Romero is a god for giving us the zombie and for the terror, adventure and theroycrafting (what will I do if this happens) that hass went on in my mind since I first saw NOTLD as a 11 year old boy, on halloween night in the mid 80s...It changed everything...

    Any additional comments?

-If youre not a hardcore collector or Romero fanboy- Pass... Its not that good.

However, the intro by Romero and the other guy (who I'm not all that familiar with btw...sorry) are both fantastic (especially the other guys)

Just disappointed Romero didnt narrate his own intro.

"Great performances but the stories were only so so"

Very boring stories overall. Zombie apocalypse happens. Zombies eat people. People kill people. End of stories
