Summary

When friends join ex-soldier Jonah on a European vacation, they discover that the beautiful German town where he was once stationed is now completely vacant. But the strangeness doesn’t end there. One of their group falls into a coma, another sees a strange creature, and large mounds of dirt appear everywhere.

Before they can determine just what is happening, Jonah realizes that something very deadly is watching from the shadows, waiting to hunt them. The pleasant vacation turns into absolute terror as Jonah and his friends struggle to survive.

But what they stumble across in the depths of an abandoned military base threatens not only their lives, but also all of mankind.

Good book

The book was good, not brilliant. Set in Germany, makes a change from US. Classic horror format if you fancy a bit of eww.

Jonah is nobody's hero...

A good start to what promises to be an interesting series, plenty of action, thrills and spills, and stomach churning gore! I didn't like MC Jonah very much to begin with, but he grew on me, I really liked the narrator David Drummond and can't wait to start book 2.

Not My Hero

This is a typical horror movie style book of monsters vs survivors, in a good way.  The main character Jonas is a despicable man.  He is not likable at all and clearly is not meant to be.  For some reason all the woman come across as slutty, bar one who apparently was wifey material.  A man literally couldn't go anywhere without some provocative woman pushing her 'assets' in his face.  I feel the author relies too much on male fantasy here.  Sometimes the side stories don't lead anywhere which was a bit annoying, but because these characters have little to do with the main storyline, you just move on and forget about them.  I came away not really knowing the Molters in terms of a description which didn't work for me.  The book was written opened ended which allowed for book 2, but stood in its own right.   The narrator did an excellent job at bringing the characters alive.  I was given a copy of this book for free of my choosing and have voluntarily left this review.

Did not finish

I could not finish this, the lead character lacked charisma, any sense of self and was so wrapped up in himself it was depressing and a big no from me. I could not bear to listen to it anymore. Add in the wierd jumps in timeline - or indeed lack of timeline- and storyline which should have been caught long before it got to this point and I could not go on. The narrator did his best but could not make up for the issues
