Summary

Book three in the magnificent Empire Trilogy by best-selling authors Raymond E. Feist and Janny Wurts. Welcome to the final play of the game. Now revered as the Servant of the Empire, Mara of the Acoma is in more danger than ever before. Not only does she face threats from the brotherhood of assassins and the cunning spies of rival ruling houses, but she has attracted the attention of the awesome Assembly of Magicians, who see her as a threat to their power.

But Mara has not reached her position through luck or accident of fate. Surrounded on all sides by enemies determined to bring her down, Mara must draw on her deepest resources to secure her place as Mistress of the Empire once and for all.

Mistress of the Empire is the stunning final book in Feist and Wurts' epic trilogy - one of the most successful fantasy collaborations of all time.

Love this series and the telling of it here, the narrator has done an excellent job of creating a true sense of immersion through her oratory.

Satisfying End

This was a long one and at times I found myself drifting away but it was a satisfying end to the trilogy. I found Mara’s exploits a bit far-fetched even for her own untouchable exalted station but it was gripping to the end and ambitious story telling.

The narrator grew on me over the three books and I came to love her tone and character voices even more on this edition.

This was a strong final book to this collection of books in the overall Riftwar Saga world - not quite as enjoyable as the original trilogy but one I will miss nonetheless. I hope some of the future books I will read will return to this world even for a fleeting moment as it really has been an intriguing yarn, well told with great imagination.

A triumph of the Riftwar Series

I loved this series. Having read a Feist's other works before, this series is truly a must read. it's depth of detail and epic world building is unrivalled. An other worldly story that mimics the culture and concepts of ancient Asian cultures. A wonderfully rich read.
