Publisher's Summary

Hard Duty: Sixteen billion dead. In humanity's last brush with the Merkiaari, it was nearly wiped out in a war that spanned decades. When survey ship captain Jeff Colgan discovers a new alien race, he's required to investigate. But what if the life form is as deadly as the Merkiaari?

As the aliens discover Colgan's ship and begin to hunt him down, the captain's mission changes from one of study to one of survival.

What Price Honor: Nanotechnology was all that kept humanity afloat in their brutal war against the Merkiaari, and it led directly to the creation of vipers, a regiment of cyborg super soldiers tasked with protecting the Alliance. When Gunnery Sergeant Gina Fuentez finds one of the fabled viper cyborgs in a terrorist camp during a mission, her squad comes under attack. Two members of her squad are dead, and she'll face the same fate if she can't escape the ensuing firefight.

Operation Oracle: General Burgton's self-imposed mission is to safeguard the alliance from future Merkiaari attacks. As the black missions Burgton authorizes begin to fail, he spends trillions of dollars on a forbidden solution: artificial intelligence. When the project collapses, Burgton compounds his crime. If he can't build an AI, he'll just have to steal one!

The Story didn't really take me. I Guess that if you like story's like John G. Hemry/Jack Campbell's the 'lost fleet' series's you'll enjoy this.
if you like Peter F. Hamilton or Iain M. Banks then this is probably not for you.

"A long book, but worth the listen."
What made the experience of listening to Merkiaari Wars Series the most enjoyable?

How the story is told on multiple fronts. My favourite parts were the super human vipers.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Viper Eric. This is the first enhanced soldier that we are introduced to, and it shows just how powerful the vipers are.

What about Mikael Naramore’s performance did you like?

A pleasure to listen to. Distinctive voices made each character easy to distinguish from the others.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

    They will return

    Any additional comments?

I was provided this audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator in exchange for an unbiased review via AudiobookBlast dot com.

    "Fantastic"

Already owned and loved the books. Thought I would venture into the world of audio books, and I am very glad I did. Mikael does a fantastic job as the narrator, bringing the story alive. Great narrator, great story, well worth a try.

    "Truly impressive - very entertaining"

I must admit that I bought this with some trepidation. I had read some reviews that were not all that flattering and to be honest, the description did not really impress me. It started as you might expect, with a space battle and some action, but then it just kept growing, exploring paths that were unexpected. Just as an interesting aside came up it blossomed into the main thread. At no point did I predict correctly what was going to happen next. Yet it all ties together in an epic vision of a possible future that is all too real in many ways. These three books together make a fantastic introduction, one I would not hesitate to recommend. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

    "Good and unexpectedly so"

This 3 book series started off as an exciting space battle and looking at the book covers expected it to continue on this vein. But it didn't! The battle went to ground and separated in many different directions. For me it worked! I would have enjoyed a continuing space war maybe it will return?
So in short good 3 books it's not the saga of the seven suns but well worth 3 credits even though it cost me just 1

    "Excellence through Speaker"

Another masterful collaboration from Mark and Mikael.
The story and narrator work very well together and 3 books in 1 go is an excellent deal.
The people , alien life , and others come alive as your not long in being caught up with the fate of the characters even the usual bad aliens.
The fight for survival in a world where even the heroes in this case Vipers and the aliens fight for recognition and the respect from their peers bring a level to the storytelling that will im sure make you an instant fan. The popularity of this series will bring you into a world which will have many more books im sure.

Where does Merkiaari Wars Series rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Just enough Sweat Tears etc, to keep me listening, its been a while since I've been so well entertained. The tech was just enough to entice my imagination, but I can accept more if the writer has it. Very well narrated too, I will be ordering the others in this series.

The Vipers and The Shand. Cooper builds on the relationship between the two races flung together in the battle against the ruthless invaders.
A common tales but addressed well and compellingly with a good balance of character and action. .
Well worth the read and I'm looking forward to hearing the next instalment!

    "well worth listening to"

the hours whisked by, well read, decent story, unexpectedly structured. my only gripe is perhaps a couple too many main characters which means occasional confusion and not quite enough character development for us to fall in love with them all. I will be reading more.

    "The Second Merkiaari War"

This omnibus edition of the first three books in the Merkiaari Wars series is an entertaining read. I was more or less just expecting what is typical in alien space military type series where each book is just a continuation of the other, but I was pleasantly surprised to find the books each unique in itself, and tell a complete story in itself. Book 1 covers the background on a lot of the characters and the world and history, with a lot of disparate stories, which may make you wonder what it has to do with the Merkiaari war. Each thread in itself it very entertaining however. The second book deals more with an invasion and the repulsion. Book three then deals on a smaller scale with the aftermath, and plans to prepare for a much larger coming war, and to a greater extent a small team action on a mission to assist with the battle planning by locating a desired asset. I got this audiobook as a free review copy. I'd already purchased book 1, and I've previously purchased other books by the author, so I was very happy for the opportunity. Even so, the value for this omnibus for a 1 credit purchase is just fantastic and an easy recommendation.

Unlike a lot of multiple character view point novels, which I can often struggle with in audio format, I found that these worked well in that each character story was able to progress for a decent chunk of time before cutting to another. With some books the author cuts way too frequently, doesn't demark the transitions, and I sometimes (often) just can't pick transitions, leaving you lost and having to rewind a lot. It didn't happen to me here.

The narrator did a stellar job (pun intended) with the books, and I'd definitely listen to more books by him, and do in fact have a number of his other narrations in my library.

I look forward to more books in this series and from this author, and will have to get the next book in this series!

This series is unbelievable. One of the most iconic pieces of science fiction I've ever enjoyed. The ability to enjoy the trilogy in one swoop made the experience that much more enjoyable. Can't wait for the rest of the books.

"Good and Bad... but Good over all."

As an author, it is unfortunate that I become over analytical when I read/listen to a book. My current genre is horror, but I love Space Operas and hope to delve into it 8n the future.

The first book disappointed me. There was a lot of back story but little actual war (especially with the Merkiaari). It would be like watching Star Wars but only seeing the Empire for ten minutes of the whole movie.

However, the first book did set up nicely for Book 2. Finally, there was some good action with the alien invaders. Also, in hindsight, the first book's over-done back story, it allowed me to care more for the characters.

I was a little disappointed in the lack of more Merkiaari action in book 3, though it did have some decent action toward the end, and also gave a little insight from the alien's perspective.

In the end, I'm happy I didn't stop after book 1 and will continue with the series.

I read reviews that the production of this was bad. It didn't bother me at all. Yes the computer voice was still made to sound like a robot, but I thought it worked. Overall, I'd recommend this book.

    "The long way around."

I enjoyed the story told across these three books thou I felt the author took the long way around. there are parts that felt long winded and unnecessary to move the plot. I'm glad I bought the 3in1 because I don't think I would have bought 2 and three after book one alone. as a whole it was enjoyed and thou it took all three books to grab my interest it has and I will give book 4 a listen as well.

    "Great new series"

This collection of the first 3 books in the series was a very enjoyable listen. Narration was excellent. There is no single main character but is a story of many people and places at war with alien invaders. There are good guys, bad guys and guys that your not quite sure of. The world the author created contains love, laughter, tears, violence, despair and hope. The action was steady, becoming frenzied at times and kept my interest throughout despite the collection being 40 hours long. When finished I still wanted more. The last book naturally ends in a cliff hanger that will make you want to get the next one to see what happens to the newest character introduced into the story.

This may be the longest series I have read all at one time.41 hours or so.I enjoyed it for the most part.I liked the relationships built by the humans and the Shan.Sebastian was also an interesting character. It was interesting to see the way the attitudes in the first book carried over and some were changed by the last book.I am glad to see that there are two more books in this series!Mikael Narramore was a terrific narrator. He got all the voices just right.“I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.”

Where does Merkiaari Wars Series rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Right up there at the top.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

I loved the alien Shan people. I can't recall much that didn't interest me.

Have you listened to any of Mikael Naramore’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is the first, but he was superb.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

We know there are aliens out there because the Alliance now has (#? 380)planets joined. What we didn't realize was there was a race out there only wanting to eliminate all others. No quarters given.
