    "A brilliant debut"

This is the Authors first book and it is brilliantly told. I enjoyed it from start to finish. Some genuinely heartfelt well developed characters. one of the best books on this genre.

    "Elderly sex fetish"

    Well damn...

Basically the book is about two 90 yo f&m who are cock-blocking a 70 yo m(three so called "best" friends) who want to get it on with a 44 yo f... and all of these lovely personalities are in vmmorpg world as 21 yo chars.

(90yo f conversation with the 44 yo f in question)
"90yo: yes you know our common friend the 70yo dude, you like him? yes?!
44yo: yep, i wanna date him!
90yo:well you should not, he is an idiot, hes awkward as f***, and he hasn't dated ever, you should not even talk to him... hes a piece of s****, yeah hes weak, no confidence, hes horrible
44yo: i kinda like him aaamm, im akward tooo
90yo: don't be silly, just forget him, hes horrible, but very very sweet, but not a good choice for you.."

This setup is immensely fucked up. I have no idea why anyone would find this elderly sex fetish genre appealing.. LitRpg was added as an error i suppose here and there there are some mentioning about gold or items or something. All the LitRPG elements are totally unrelated and just random, but basically story goes like this:

"70 yo: hehe she's(44 yo) riding a horse
90 yo : yeas she rides it good hehehe
    70yo : rides hehehehe
    90yo: a rider hehehe.
70yo: oh yeah ride it hehehehe...
44 yo: oh cut it out heheheh
    hehehehe
    "
WTF, all the book is like this

some other episode at the beginning of the book:

some regs ambush our group of adventures calling them noobs, but wait our noobs have the best equipment just from the start and they are insanely awesome(wtf 1lvl dudes, way too op, they should be easy prey for anyone)
probably has something to do with the issue that one of the 90 yo was a tank for like 40y in a row WTF?! this is a new game start, story makes no sense... and sure the regs that ambush our adventurers act like complete retards, so conveniently, probably it was too hard for the author to think of some support chars that are not retarded, our adventures obliterate the regulars PK'ers. ... ..

I feel that if you are a redneck, simple minded person with an elderly sex fetish this just might be a book for you!

"Dullards Play Bland Game Badly, Are Praised"
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

    Fundamentally flawed.

Has Last Horizon: Beta turned you off from other books in this genre?

This was my second book in this genre. The other was okay. If the next is like this one, it will be my last.

What aspect of Jonathan Yen’s performance would you have changed?

    He was fine.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

    Extreme Boredom.

    Any additional comments?

This story completely missed the point of this genre. With the potential to showcase an mmo idea completely unfettered by marketing, real life, and financial constraints, we get a group of retirees (which is very strangely emphasized in the book) playing an extremely bland game that has only three classes and three professions and its BORING. Really. REALLY. BORING. They do the simplest things and its a WONDER to their eyes. "Oh wow that was worth 2000 experience!" Is that a lot in this game? I doubt it. "Wh-What??? You killed a level SEVEN BEAR???? How!!!!"Nevermind the completely insane underreaction to a sexual assault within ten minutes of them getting into the game (which they literally don't get into for several hours. Before that its some old guy reading a forum. Yes, you have found it. Forum Reading: The Novel.)

When I see a book like this that presently has a 4.4 star rating, I question the integrity of the star rating system. Here's a big fat 1-star for the sane readership.

    "Corny!!"

If ned Flanders and Mr Rodgers wrote a book together. I believe this is what it would sound like. Silly jokes that make you cringe. And just immature dialogue. The author is either really old, really young. Or some weird basement dweller.

"Felt like an 18 hour trip to the grocery store"

I'm wrestling with myself in writing this review, and there is a chance that I will not submit it. While I am certainly a bitter person, I'm not often publicly mean, and so posting negative reviews are not something I do lightly.

I did not enjoy this audiobook. The story was boring and uninteresting, the painfully cheesy attempts at humour regularly fell flat (and were throughly unaided by the narrator's exaggerated, forced delivery), and the use of language was exceptional in its repetition.

I will admit that I went into this knowing I did not like the narrator's work from other audiobooks, so I tried my best to separate my thoughts on his particular vocal style from the story itself. Despite this, there was nothing to enjoy. The characters were flat and uninteresting, their interactions were awkward and unrelatable, and nothing really ever happened. It wasn't much more than the author dictating his ideal personal romp through a virtual world.

The primary plot device were the quests themselves, which at no point felt like they carried any weight. They are, after all, meaningless even within the context of the story. Sometimes a reader can suspend their disbelief if the characters are deep enough for their own sentiments towards their in-game missions to carry over, but that certainly wasn't the case here.

There were some conflicts with other players within the world, but they felt more like afterthoughts, and failed to deepen the story.

Please, for the next book you write, remember that your job is to spin a tale with peaks and valleys, with bitter conflict and satisfying resolution. Not a trip to the grocery store.

    ...For the bananas.

it was a great read, loved the characters, and the world building. Looking forward to the next one. Hope to get a good monk class character in the next one. Definitely lots of directions to take this series.

"Old fuddy duddys have a VR experience"

This book involves geriatric adults in their golden years having the chance to experience the VR we dream of today. This book is the first of two and involves a group of three people jumping into beta testing the 1st full immersive VR game. There's a great contrast where the characters have health issues in the real world and in the game World feel alive vibrant and able to freely move once again. However there's another character that says deviants far too much.

A really good story about love and friendship. All the elements you expect in a good story, villains and heroes, almost impossible Quest. it's all there.

    "Simple and slow"

I just couldn't do it. I made it half way and that was it for me.

The game world and game play is simple. Nothing original or fun. This is suppose to be a vr/mmorpg in the future (which should be light years ahead in game mechanics and interactions) and the author never made me feel that there was anything special. The NPCs, run by AI, were scripted and dull.

The narration was slow and lacking, making the book even harder to get through. About a quarter way through I went to the kindle and that helped a little.

The character dialogue seemed a little cardboard to me.
