Summary

Winner of the 2017 Dragon Award for Best Military Science Fiction or Fantasy Novel

I am Armor. I am fury. I will not fail.

Soldiers of the Terran Armor Corps wage war across the stars. Wired into mechanized battle suits, they fight the terrifying battles which must be won, no matter the cost. Their deeds are legend, their reputation feared by the enemies of Earth and her allies, but how the Corps forges young men and women into mighty warriors is shrouded by mystery.

Roland Shaw lost his parents to war, he volunteers for the Armor Corps to honor their memory and discover just how far he can push himself. To succeed, he must find the iron in his heart and prove himself worthy to the Corps. For the Armor, there is no substitute for victory and to fail is to die.

Iron Dragoons is an action-packed military sci-fi novel, the first of a new series by the author of The Ember War Saga.

honestly great but too short

This is a great book with a fantastic performance but you are definitely wanting more. Fox needs to write longer books.

Absolutely hands-down favorite

Richard Fox is amazing. After listening to the Ember Wars I tried several other sci-fi stories. I was disappointed over and over, I then listened to some of my favorites (so I thought) from the past few years, they were also disappointing. He is just a freaking great author. An abundance of adventure, the right amount of humor and outstanding character development.
Luc Daniels nails it. As far as this type of sci-fi space adventure, they have set the bar.

Excellent ground forces sci fi tale

While not the most complex read, this novel kept my attention with its decent but not overwhelming detail of the various combat technologies used in its universe, as well as the very well fleshed out history of how humanity survived two alien invasions. The addition of the Iron Legion's religion was also a pleasure to read.

The only weak point for me in the story was how naive the main character is about combat, the military, and the history and culture of Earth's alien foes and friends. It took me some suspension of belief to ignore how a rather whiney and very unprepared young man somehow makes it through the training to join a kick-ass branch of cybernetic Marines. The lieutenants that train him and his care are certainly fleshed out to be very professional, but the main character really didn't come across as having the "right stuff"; only a very lucky chance encounter at the very beginning of the tale and a small religious "miracle" involving water dripping off a revered statue made the character stand out as being really exceptional in any way. He needed more of an edge, in my opinion.

Other than what I felt was a little weak characterization on the main character, the story was a very good read.

Armor plus Luke D

equals great. I'm probably in the minority of people entering the armor world without having listened to the Ember War series which I'm now going to do ... after the next Terran Armor Corps book. Luke Daniels is amazing as ever.

I Am Armor

The team of Richard Fox and Luke Daniels have won me over again.
Though not a 100% continuation of the original Ember Wars saga, this book sheds new light on the future of the Ember War universe , the mysterious Armor core and their traditions. After finishing this book I'm left ready for more and excited to know that there's already one other book in the series ready to be devoured. the story and pacing were excellent. the narration as always was incredible, funny and true to the characters.
I'm ready 4 the next Joyride in the series... I Am Armor!

Thought the story was over but Hold The Press

Daniels brought the Amber Wars to life and he's doing it again.

Richard I was saddened with ending of AS, thank for bringing your world no universe back....

Great Start to this Follow-on Series

This series follows the Ember War series which I have not read (but now plan to depending on how the rest of this goes).

The writing is well done, dialog is believable and character development is deep and satisfying. There is a good amount of technical detail to keep me interest and thinking while not getting into babble or fall into the near magic classification.

I scope of this particular book is confined to the recruitment and training of the main character and the author does a good job keeping the action going (even if you know how it'll end). I look forward to the next book and hope it expands it's reach while keeping it as personable as this one.

The narrator is great and really brings the characters to life.

First time

Was looking for a new author(s) outside of my usuals. Found this on an email from Audible. I love the book and audible narrator. My only wish is for clarification about the Armor group-it reads as if they grow weak, spindly and have NO life outside their suits. Its an interesting how the Armor group exist but its too austere-paints a rather sad and lonely life. Makes you feel sad for the hero. Perhaps add some life outside the suit and a bit of romance? I realize sci-fi does not focus on romance, but usually there's a bit of it so you don't feel sad for the guy. I'm looking forward to the next book.

Paying homige

Finished the book in one sitting. it was great to hear stories after the Ember wars, and I'm glad Fox did not try and make it another "Ember war", but a story on its own.

Too Good to Miss

The Ember War Universe is pretty amazing! Gives you a bit of everything you could hope for; science fiction, military, hope, despair, laughs, and solid good 'ol fashioned hatable characters (both good and bad). I really love the fact that even though a series may end, the universe lives on; one of my favorites by far!

Iron Dragoons takes you through the life of Armor Selection (if you read Ember War you know what that is, if not basically its the only branch of military that allows anyone to join; you just have to prove your metal). This series walks you through the life of a young boy that aspires to make a difference. His trials and tribulations will keep you on the edge of your seat for hours to come. With twists and turns throughout the plot of this book, you won't want to put it down.
